It’s November, which means our hearts and minds are turned to how blessed we are and how thankful we are for everything we have. We seem to notice our big blessings in life most of the time, but now is a great time to notice the small things we tend to overlook. We’ve tried to make it a point of teaching our kids gratitude throughout the year but we like to emphasize it even more this time of year. These Gratitude Activities for Kids are a great way to get them to recognize and be grateful for what they have. It’s also a great way to talk about how to help others and become a blessing in someone else’s life.

Easy Framed Feather

by leanneja on November 11, 2016 · 0 comments

in Bedroom, Craft Room, Crafts, Decorating, DIY

You know me, I’m back at it again trying to update a room by using things I already have and maybe a little paint and creativity. This Easy Framed Feather is the newest addition to the craft/guest room. It’s been a challenge fitting everything in and making it functional but I only have a few more things to do and I’ll be ready to share the whole room. I’ve been using things I already have and just updating them to make the space feel new and hopefully inviting while it also serves as my functional craft room. Having an extra room would be awesome, but for now this will have to work.

Best Gift Ideas for Day Hikers

by leanneja on November 9, 2016 · 2 comments

in Gifts, Travel

If you follow me on Instagram you know I have taken up hiking this past year. I am fortunate to live only 5 miles from a National Park and am able to take advantage of it’s beauty often. I try to hike 3 times a week all year long and have learned a few things about what to carry and how to be prepared. I’m also frugal, so this list of Best Gift Ideas for Day Hikers is full of reasonably priced items making it easy for you to purchase one or more for the hiker in your life.

Instant Frame

by leanneja on November 7, 2016 · 1 comment

in Crafts, Decorating, DIY, Gifts

I have a blank area at the top of the stairs that I’m excited to finally decorate. I came up with a lot of different ideas but finally settled on a small cabinet with a gallery wall above it. More on that in another post. Regular frames are fine but I wanted to do something a little different for this space so this Instant Frame is a great alternative.

Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels

by leanneja on October 31, 2016 · 19 comments

in 31 Days Series, Christmas, Recipes

I found this recipe in the November/December Midwest Living magazine about 6 years ago and knew my family would love it. I was right. They devoured it and I’ve made these Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels every Christmas since then. If you like sweet and salty tastes together, these pretzels are perfect for you.

Christmas Sled

by leanneja on October 30, 2016 · 0 comments

in 31 Days Series, Christmas, Crafts, Decorating, Paint

How many of you are like me and have a few (or more) unfinished Christmas projects? I have this sled I bought 7 years ago that I am embarrassed to say has remained unfinished up to this point. I would even display it unfinished on the porch with other sleds around it. So, one of my ideas in this series is to finish an unfinished project, but I’ll also share an easy way to finish and display a wood sled. This Christmas Sled took less than an hour to finish, so stop procrastinating and find a project to finish or buy a sled and finish a new one.

Santa Crinkle Cookies

by leanneja on October 28, 2016 · 2 comments

in 31 Days Series, Christmas, Recipes

Most of us have a tradition of leaving cookies out for Santa. Attending cookie exchange parties have become even more popular in the past few years too, so I like to try a new type of cookie every Christmas. I decided to make these Santa Crinkle Cookies this year. They’re similar to my Chocolate Cloud cookies which has always been a family favorite. These are gluten free but you can use a regular cake mix if you don’t need to eat gluten free.

Pine and Pom Pom Wreath

by leanneja on October 27, 2016 · 18 comments

in Christmas, Crafts, Decorating

I love simple projects, especially during the busy holiday season. My goal is to make our house beautiful and inviting but at the same time I want to have time to enjoy it. I’m always looking for the balance between doing enough but not too much to take time away from my family. Starting with a simple wreath and adding a special touch to it turned it into this whimsical Pine and Pom Pom Wreath in little time.

We have a tradition of making new ornaments every year. These Wood Slice Chalkboard Ornaments are fun and easy to make and if you want to change the look you can erase them and draw a new picture. These would be super cute on a kids tree and you could see how their drawings change and improve every year.
