Dollar Tree and D.I. Love
Have I told you how much love the D.I. (thrift store) and Dollar Tree? I know I have, but I just have to tell you again. I pour over magazines and catalogs and even blogs with beautiful pictures of rooms and accessories, but rarely buy from them. I don’t have a huge budget, but I want my home to reflect my taste and have things in it I love. That’s why I try to hit the dollar store and the D.I. once a week. My first stop in the D.I. is always the glass area. The same at the dollar store. That’s where I found these pieces. The tall candlesticks and the bigger vases were $1 each at the D.I. The smaller candlestick and vases were at Dollar Tree.

Have you got the vision yet? Yeah, I have a thing for putting 2 pieces of glass together with glue. Remember the dessert stands. I’m still making more of those too. They make beautiful gifts, especially with treats on them. Here are the pieces being glued.

And here are the larger ones on the mantel ready for Valentine’s Day. I’ll show the smaller one’s later. What do you think?

I love them and only $2 each. So much cheaper than the ones from magazines or boutiques.

I’m not finished with the mantel yet. There’s still a few more things I want to add so I’ll show more later. Amanda, the 15 year old, came downstairs and said “I like the mantel”. Wow, that’s a compliment! She’s never said anything about the mantel before. I like it too, but it kind of reminds me of High School. Our colors were red and black. I think I need to add a few more valentine elements to it and then I’ll feel better about it.

I found these in my bedroom. How cute! I’ll see what else I have around the house I can add.

These are lovely Leanne and no one would know where they had their humble beginnings if you didn’t tell them!
I scrolled back a bit to catch up and have to say I LOVE the rice draft stopper. That was such a pretty piece of fabric, I’d only find something real ugly laying around my house. But I did notice fleece is on sale at Joann’s right now so maybe I’ll have to pop on over.
Also I can’t stand how cute those necklaces are that you made with interchangeable dangles. I am going to have to show my MIL your post and see if she can do anything similar.
Thanks for your compliment on my button pillow☺
Those are awesome
I really gotta try it one day. What type of glue do you use?
I am an avid D.I.-er too! I always see the glasses and wonder if there are any possibilities. Love your ideas!
Dollar Tree is a true mega-house of inspiration… you just have to go in “thinking outside the box”… love how they look on your mantle!
Okay first of all, I can’t believe you have 8 kids and secondly I love the candles!
I am glad to find another large family in the blog world. I love to read those type blogs in particular, since we are also another large family.
I love to decorate and get ideas from other bloggers. Beautiful job.
Love the bit of sparkle those candle holders add. The last time I was at the DT they were out of candlesticks. I think this idea is catching on!
I love em! Great job!
Fabulous! I’ve made a few of these myself!
Please feel free to add these to Talented Tuesdays at My Frugal Family!

You copied these from Melissa at granvillehouse.blogspot.com.
I didn’t mean to offend anyone for not giving them credit. Like I said at the beginning of this post I’ve seen these in catalogs, magazines and other blogs. I didn’t know who started them in blogland so I didn’t mean to not give credit where credit is due. I was trying to show my love of being able to purchase lovely pieces at thrift stores and turn them into something even better. It was just my take on it, nothing more. I give Melissa full credit for starting these in blogland.
I love these! Don’t let the anonymous one rain on your parade! Honestly there is nothing “new” under the sun, I’ve done stuff like this for years, I saw this idea in a 70s magazine! LOL LOL And an older riend of mine does this with clear candy dishes and they are awesome! Love your mantle!
People have been gluing things together forever! Just because her post dates before yours does not make her the originator of the idea. I think your mantle is lovely. I have no doubt you’ll valentine’s it up some more. You have such a talent for that. when I try it, it just looks cluttery. Maybe you could post on how you make it look like a decoration and not clutter. It is beyond me. keep your chin up and keep blogging!

What a fantastic idea! I just spent oodles of money for similar type things for my MIL for Christmas. Very, very nice. As to your anonymous comments – does “Anonymous” think only one person in the world can do each craft? Come on….many people make the same things, and each is special in its own way, and hopefully encourages other people to put their own spin on the same craft. Keep up the good work!
Why don’t you come on over to my blog and visit a while
Your mantle looks great! I need to make one of these jars that I keep seeing around blogland, they are so pretty.
love it!
I wouldn’t worry about the person who said you copied your idea. I have seen these EVERYWHERE! And I don’t even know if I would have put the disclaimer up there! These are super cute! Can’t wait to try them!
egads, gluing $1 candlesticks to any other glass piece are all OVER blog land! “Anonymous” needs to get over herself! BTW, yours are just as darling as can be!!
I was going to make the same candles, and can’t remember where I first saw them either!!! Great job! I look around blogland all the time and just can’t remember all the places I stalk! LOL
Thanks for joining my party Get your craft on Thurs. I hope you join me next week. Mr. Linky disappeared for a while tonight I thought I lost all of my guest, but it finally came back. I will not be using Mr. Linky anymore!
Love dollar tree too! I do floral arrangements and need an inexpensive container, used dollar clear plate, glued white round short dip type dish to bottom. The flowers were place in floral foam on the plate, they looked like they were floating in air.
Excellent work. I did a bit of the same concept this week…My show n tell is all about Valentine stuff this week.
HERE
PS…I tried to grab your blog button, and the image doesn’t work…it shows up from the copied url, but once I put it on my blog, the image doesn’t show…I think it’s not allowing hyperlinking.
I made dozens of these at Christmas time and gave them as gifts. They are such beautiful candle holders to decorate with. Yours look wonderful. Hugs, Marty
I love how inexpensive it is, even though you wouldn’t guess!
I love them. I also love the little bird on the black pillar. I really am going to have to try my hand at making some of these. I plan on taking a break tomorrow and doing some thrift shopping so maybe I will find something i can make some with.
Thanks for sharing!
~ Tracy
A good idea can not be put out there enough! Yours are great too and thank-you. People don’t say thank-you enough <3
Cute idea–I found some really cute things at Dollar Tree at Christmas time, I haven’t been back in a while, I need to take a trip by there soon.
What kind of glue do you use for glass–Elmer’s, Tacky glue, or something stronger like superglue?
Love your creation! Please don’t let someone who won’t stand behind “his/her” comment and prefers to be anonymous discourage you! You are the second blogger this week to have this happen to…Just remember that the overwhelming majority of the creative blogging community are encouragers!
oh dear.. i thought glueing a candle stick on glasses, plates and what not are everywhere in bloglands… everybody got inspired to do or have one in their household, so, my two cents thought said that you didn’t copycat anyone.. you just shared what inspired you to the rest of the world.. welp, that annonymous must surf the blogland more often.. and your matel just lovely! love the candle holders!
I love your spin on the vase and candlestick. Your mantle looks awesome. I am fairly new to this type of blogging and consequently done a lot of blog stalking and have seen these all over. Don’t let someone, who won’t even leave a name, get to you. With so many ideas out there most have been thought up before. Too many of the women doing these blogs are supportive.
So cute!! Where did you find those cute little ball things? Thanks for linking up!!!
