As much as I love blogs and pinterest I still love looking through home decor magazines. They’re full of pretty pictures and great ideas and I’m able to get so much inspiration from them. Sometimes I get inspiration from the most unusual pictures though. I was looking through a magazine a few months ago and saw an ad for appliances or windows or something else, I’m not sure but the thing that caught my eye was a display of feathers. The picture had these very large feathers displayed on a block of wood. I knew I wanted to make some Feather Art similar to the picture so this is my interpretation of the piece in the magazine.
I told you I was addicted when I made my last wall hanging. I thought I’d change things up a bit for my side of the room and make a Macrame Wall Hanging this time. Oh, this brought back so many memories. I used to love macrame but hadn’t made anything using it for at least 30 years. I think the last thing I made was a hanging plant holder. I had a macrame owl when we were first married and now I wish I still had it! One of my favorite things about macrame is it’s inexpensive and you can make it cover a whole wall if you like. It makes a great focal point. I made mine long instead of wide because of the space I wanted to fill.
Funny thing: since the Minions have come to be I can’t say banana without saying it like a minion. I even sing it at times. It’s weird I know, but my kids join in too so it’s all good. And then they tell me to stop because I take it too far. Anyway, I love bananas and I love key lime so this Key Lime Banana Smoothie was meant to be. This isn’t a super healthy smoothie but it’s not too bad either, so drink up and enjoy.
I have so many wonderful memories of playing with yarn when I was in Junior High. I made pom-poms, tassels, wall hangings, hanging plant holders, I was even taught how to knit a scarf from my grandma. Isn’t it funny how everything comes back in style? What was once trendy, is trendy again. I made a Yarn Wall Hanging for my bedroom and now I’m hooked all over again. This one is super simple and I love how it turned out.
I am participating in an Instagram swap and the theme this month is fruit. It got me thinking about all the awesome DIY Fruit Decor I have been seeing on blogs and Pinterest. There are some beautiful manufactured pieces as well but I wanted to focus on the DIY projects this time. I’m sure a lot of you are like me and if you can make it yourself you will. Most of these projects are very simple and there are even some printables included, so all you have to do is print them out and pop them in a frame. Instant art and decor is always welcome in my home.
I thought it was about time I changed my mantel from the 4th of July since it’s the end of the month. I decorated my mantel in a Seaside theme at the beginning of Summer and thought I’d do something similar for the next few weeks before school starts. Since we love the ocean and visit it as much as possible, a Coastal Mantel is perfect for August.
You can find Coastal decor in almost any store right now. If you’re lucky you can find what you want on sale, if not you can always make it yourself. If you know me, you know I don’t pay full price for anything. I wanted this really awesome tray but wasn’t willing to pay $30 for it so I made a similar one. This DIY Anchor Tray was less than $10.
I first shared this easy No Sew Pillow Cover on my blog over 4 years ago. I had actually made the first one 5 years before that on a whim to add a decorative pillow to my bed. It has now been pinned over 100,000 times and shared thousands of times on facebook and other social channels. Do you know why it has been so popular? Because it is the easiest way to update your pillows to quickly change the look of any room. Plus, there’s no sewing or gluing involved.
I wasn’t going to post today but National Ice Cream Day seemed like a good day for a sweet post. I decided to make a Life is Better with Ice Cream printable to help celebrate the holiday. It’s super simple but looks great popped in a frame to add a little fun and color to your kitchen.
I love going to Open Houses, Showcase of Homes, Parade of Homes, or whatever they are called in your area. I get so many good design, decorating, and storage ideas. Just because I’m renting right now doesn’t mean I’m not still looking for great ideas for when I own a home again. I’m sharing some of my favorite Built In Storage Ideas that I’ve gathered from some of the many homes I’ve visited over the past few years.
