Entryway Organizing Ideas to help keep your entry and home organized.

A lot of us use the garage area as our family entryway. I know we do, but we also need to store a few things by the front door. Having a narrow entryway can add certain challenges too. I’m sharing some organizing ideas for small or narrow entryways that will help you keep the space useful and organized for what you need.

Think about what your family needs in an entryway. What do you drop in that space or need as you’re walking out the front door? Your needs will probably differ from mine so I’m going to share several suggestions to help you organize what you need in that space.

Cabinet – The biggest storage bang for your buck will be a cabinet with several drawers or shelves. This is how we use our entry cabinet. It’s narrow to fit in our space, so make sure to take your entryway width into account. You can find several narrow cabinets in various heights and lengths. This cabinet was in our other house but fits well in this space too.

The top drawers hold candles of all shapes and sizes. I didn’t have another designated space to hold them and this has worked out well. As always I make sure things are contained in their space. These containers are just ipad and iphone box lids. If I buy something new I need to make sure I have space to store it. It actually prevents me from making spontaneous and unnecessary purchases.

The three middle drawers are for individual members of the family. I purchased clear containers from Walmart and they fit perfectly in the small drawers. Look for what you need in all store departments, these were in the bathroom area. They hold masks and extra keys we sometimes need. I’m only sharing my drawer since they’re basically all the same.

One side of the cabinet holds extra candle holders. The other side holds foot deodorizer, shoe spray, and umbrellas. Since there’s empty space I’ll be able to add things if I need too.

Here’s another example of a cabinet with a lot of storage space. I love the different options that are available for specific needs. Add a mail area for incoming and outgoing mail or even for school papers.

Console Table – You might not need much storage in the entryway so a table is a good option. You can still use decorative boxes or baskets to hold small items. A console table with two shelves might also be a good option.

Bench – A comfortable place to put shoes on and off might be all you need by the front door. I would also add baskets under the bench to hold shoes and other items. You could also have a basket for each member of the family and a shoe basket for guests.

Hooks – Adding a few hooks to the wall will give you a place for jackets and bags as you walk in the door. Only keep out what you are actually using at the time to keep the space neat and tidy.

However you decide to organize your space make sure you have a landing place for anything you need by the front door.

Decorative items – Now let’s talk about extra items that add to the beauty and efficiency of the entryway. It’s a good idea to have a mirror by the front door for a quick check before you leave or answer the door.

I like to have a rug on the inside and outside of the front door to catch dirt and debris. Use a rug pad or rug tape to keep it from slipping or moving around.

Having a cabinet or table also gives you another place to display decorative items. I’m not going to complain about another place to decorate. It’s fun to change up the decorations seasonally and for holidays. Since it’s the first area people see I like it to reflect the rest of the house.

The last thing I did was change out the builder grade lighting. We picked this up at Home Depot for a small cost and it changed the whole look of the entry area.

We would still like to add some details to the entryway and long hall, but that will have to wait until we get some other projects in the house finished.

Enjoy getting your entryway organized to fit your needs better.
