I went to Canada to visit my daughter and her family. We decided to brave the weather one day and head to Montreal to see the sites. Our first stop was the Montreal Temple. It’s so small. There was a Stake Center next to it, that was bigger. It’s so pretty though. All of the Temples are beautiful.
We were all hungry especially Ben so we stopped to eat at Cora’s. They make any and every crepe you can think of. There’s many of these restaurants in Montreal. I had to take a picture of the children’s menu. I though it was so cute.
Here’s me and Julien waiting patiently for our food. What a sweetie!
I ordered the Belle Crepe Avrie (in English) which is seasonal fruit in a custard. It was so good, but huge. This is a regular size dinner plate it’s on. I ate about half of it and then my son-in-law finished it off.
Stephane (ate my crepe) and Benjamin. Ben always poses for pictures. So cute!
View of Montreal. The big building that looks like a whale is the Olympic Stadium that was built for the 1976 Olympics.
More of Montreal.
Then we visited the St. Joseph Oratory. Devout Catholics take a pilgrimage to this Oratory and climb the steps on their knees. There’s a lot of steps.
Front of the building, above the windows.
Crypt Chapel.
More of the front.
The dome from the outside.
And from the inside in the other Chapel.
A window from the outside.
And from the inside. I’m sure this isn’t the same window.
Carving of Mary and Joseph in the Chapel.
Behind the Crypt Chapel.
Then we visited Old Montreal. I loved the buildings here. The architecture was amazing. Shops on the main floor and apartments and businesses on the upper floors.
The roof of another church.
I had to get a picture of this sign. We always kid our son-in-law about Poutine. It’s fries with cheese and gravy on top. Not my kind of food. We always say “poutine is eeeeeevil”. (We saw a kid on Arthur say it and he was from Montreal). The other word at the bottom of the sign means beer.
There was a Lights Festival going on. We didn’t stay for the fireworks because it was so cold, but there were other things to do. This is a treat they get often at Festivals. Pour syrup on snow and let it harden for a few minutes.
Take a popsicle stick and start rolling so the syrup sticks to it. It hardens and becomes taffy like.
Then you eat it and if you’re almost 3 you get really sticky.
The boys love it. Ummm, yeah, because it’s pure sugar.
This is what all the roads look like in Old Montreal.
A view up one of the streets with the Festival going on.
I love all the arched entries.
I don’t know what this building is, but I like how it looks all lit up at night.
I took a picture of this because Stephane says “arret” to the boys and I didn’t know what he was saying. Now I do.
I should have and would have taken more pictures, but I’m not from Canada and I. Was. Freezing! Thanks you guys for showing me around Montreal. It was fun!
I am originally from Montreal and you have gathered all of the highlights! Did you also go the underground village? It’s a whole series of different malls underground that can get you from one end of downtown to the other without going outside. Great in the Winter!
Thanks for this – a taste of home is always nice.
I do love Montreal! Every time I have gone, it has been a fun (and crazy) time.
LOVE the old brick pavement!!!
Wow! Absolutely stunning. What a fun trip!
