St. Patrick’s Day Door Decor

Wow, I meant to post this last night and then I was hit with a sudden major headache, nausea, and chills. One minute I was fine and the next I could hardly move. About 8:00 I crashed and that was it till this morning. I’m feeling much better now, but still a little nauseated. I hope I get better as the day goes on.

Anyway, I don’t have much in the way of St. Patrick’s Day decorations, but I made this a few years ago (with the help of a neighbor). I drew the clover, but she did most of the cutting. I’m still trying to be brave around power tools. The wood pieces are cedar fence slats. You just lay all the fence pieces together, draw out the heart and the center shape you want, then cut each fence piece individually.

Drill holes for the wire, to connect the pieces together. I drilled a total of 14 holes plus 4 for the hanger at the top. Use a heavy gauge wire because the pieces are a little heavy. I mixed paint with water to thin it out a little to make more of a wash. Then I sanded the outer edges before I put it together. I didn’t have to use a stain, because the cedar color showed through once I sanded.

I had originally tied raffia on the hanger wire but since that’s outdated now, I changed it up for some ribbon I had in my ribbon stash. I like it much better now.

So that’s what’s on my front door until March 17th. After that, I have no idea.

St. Patty’s Day usually gets skipped over at my house. I really love the heart though. Maybe I’ll get busy.

Wow! If only I could work with wood… You’ve created a lovely decoration here. My shamrocks this week are simpler, just made of paper and felt.
