I’ve been wearing my acorn necklaces lately and have been getting so my compliments on them that I thought I’d re-post how I made them. This is the perfect time to go acorn hunting. Gather them for decorating this Fall then save a few for some cute necklaces.
You’ll want to bake your acorns in a 200 degree oven for 15-20 minutes to kill the worms that could be inside. You’ll want to do this if you’re just going to be using them as decorations too. It gives me the heebie jeebies, so I leave them outside until I can cook them.
I spray painted them because I wanted a smooth finish. First I primed them, then sprayed the top and bottom with my color of choice. The acorns are really light and tend to move around when you paint them so I put them on top of a garbage bag and nestled them between the boards on the deck to hold them in place.
I added a little sparkle to the cap by brushing on some mod podge and sprinkling on glitter. The acorns shrunk a little in the oven so I used E6000 glue to reattach the cap to the bottom. Then I used super glue to attach the jump ring to the acorn cap. The ribbon or chain will be going through the jump ring to make the necklace.
I wear the one on the right the most but it has a silver chain through it now. Do you think you’ll try making an acorn necklace?
