How I Met My House

I met my house almost 6 years ago. We had owned a home in the next town over for 10 years. Then hubby lost his job and it took months to find a new one. We were struggling financially and were having a hard time paying all the bills. We made a decision to sell our home and move into a rental in the same neighborhood. It could have been one of the hardest moves ever, but because we stayed in the same neighborhood our kids were still going to the same schools and playing with their same friends and we were able to keep our friendships in the neighborhood too. It was a blessing for us at the time. The house was owned by a friend who had moved out. It was a lovely home and she had taken excellent care of it. We did the same by having our yard service still come to this home and by planting a garden and flowers. It  worked well for us for 18 months, but it wasn’t ours and we were ready for something of our own again.

We started looking around and found a style of home in surrounding areas we really liked. All the ones we looked at were just out of our price range though and we were getting discouraged. We had actually driven by our home many times and looked at both the houses to the left of it, but they were too small for the seven kids we still had at home. Our home never had a “For Sale” sign in the yard, so we had no idea it was available. A few weeks later hubby saw our home on a website and called on it. We went to look at it and knew it was perfect for our family. It just felt right, plus it had the doors I’d been wanting for 3 years.

We started moving into our home August 1, 2004. It’s been perfect for us, not too far from old friends, wonderful new friends, the same Junior High, closer to hubby’s work (only 2 1/2 miles away), and great neighbors. I hope to grow old in this house. That’s why the master bedroom is on the main level.

How did you meet your house?

By the way, all you warm weather friends, it snowed this morning at my house. Jealous? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
