I have seen these a lot in specialty stores and boutiques. I can’t see myself paying $10-$20 for something I know I can make for around $2. I found most of the plates at my local thrift store or Ross, all of them cost between .49-$1.49. I found all the vases, candlesticks or glasses at my local thrift store for between .25-.99. Now I just had to put them together to make something I would love.
I applied the gorilla glue super glue to the rim of the candlestick or vase. Make sure you apply it to the highest points on the candlestick so the glue can come in contact with the other surface.
Turn the plate upside down, then attach the candlestick to bottom of the plate. This way worked best for me, so I could find the center of the plate. Hold down for 30 seconds, then it’s glued together.
I love how they turned out and no two are alike.
I also had some candlesticks that needed to be painted, so I decided to use Heirloom white and started spraying. This is what they looked like before.
And now this is what they look like. I love these plates and I love how the candlesticks turned out painted.
Here’s a top view of the plates. So pretty!
I can’t wait to use these dessert stands at the baby shower this Saturday. And I’m sure I’ll find more excuses to use them all the time.
I’m so doing this! They are all beautiful and so unique. :o)
Terrific job! Love the blue and white combo … it’s a classic!

Very nicely done! They all turned out so dainty looking 🙂 I love the thrift store. I go once every couple of weeks. I buy a lot of those little plates, but I tend to buy them as props for my food blog. LOL
I love these dessert stands.
These are great! My favorite is the “ruffled” plate…so pretty!
Whoa! You are smart! I did a similar project for S2C Gorilla Glue Party, but I like how you glued yours upside down!! (Check mine out 2 see how silly I was…)I’m glad I found your blog- love your ideas!
I love your dessert stands! I’ve made some myself, but need to get more plates and “stuff” to make more. You’ve given me inspiration to get to it! Thanks for sharing…

This is such a great idea! I’m going to have to steal it! Those little vases were, uh, kind of ugly before–now so cute!
Your dessert stand are beautiful! What a gorgeous display they’ll make covered with dessert goodies!
genius leanne! you are a complete genius! i will have to start looking for 25 cent candle holders and plates to make these fab cake stands! i have one but one isn’t enough! thanks for sharing!!!
This would be a great project for a party- for less than the cost of plastic silverware!
These are great. I have seen people do this and have just been kinda afraid to try. But you made it look so easy. I know what I am gonna be on the look out for. . . vases, candle sticks and plates. Thanks for the inspiration!
Very creative. And I really love that you used plates – that way everything is still food safe.

I’m with you on this!! They are so inexpensive to make that it’s just silly to buy them. Plus you can find such beautiful thrifted dishes that it’s so much fun! I really like the painted candlesticks!! They really make it look elegant.
I love that second set! Very cute!
They turned out so pretty. Thanks for sharing. I have thought about making some before, but I really don’t need or have room for them.
Oh , wow …thanks for showing this idea!! I have some of that glue because a teapot I ordered from ebay arrived with a handle broken in 4 places and it has worked!! I will have to try this idea!!
Man, I don’t know where you blog people live, but I don’t even have a thrift store around, never mind one that offers up such great stuff! Those stands are so pretty and I can’t believe how easy they were to make. Have fun at the baby shower!
I’m linking to you today (when I get my post finished!), as I made these type of plate stands for my mother’s birthday party last Sept. I just happened upon your tutorial today, and if it’s alright with you I’d like to link my post to yours.
I’ve found my holiday gifts for my group of girl friends! ! We have a price point of $15.00 I’ll have no problem doing that. Tomorrow is flea market day for me ! Thank you, Beth
