Welcome to Day 26 of 31 Days of 15 Minute Organizing
I have another quick little project for you today. Do you have a lot of keys? Do you misplace them or have a hard time finding the one you need? These ideas have helped me and I hope they will help you.
Start by having an exact place to hold your keys. This will probably be different for everyone, but it just needs to work for you. We have these keys hanging by the entry into the garage: mailbox key, bike lock, gate lock and electronic garage door opening. I have duplicates of some of these keys on my key ring but these also need to be available to everyone in the family so they are kept in a place that is convenient for everyone. You can even go a bit further and attach a little label to each key. I don’t feel the need to do that since we all know which key is which, but it’s a good idea if you don’t.
Get rid of extra keys or store ones you don’t want to get rid of yet but aren’t sure what they go to. I have a few keys that are stored in a compartment in my desk drawer, I think they go to something of hubby’s and I don’t dare get rid of them yet.
I have 4 keys that look almost identical to my house key. It never fails that I stand at the front door going through all the keys before I finally get to the house key. It gets so frustrating! I should never gamble, the odds would not be in my favor. I’ve being seeing this around for a while and wanted to give it a try. It worked beautifully! Grab you favorite color of nail polish and paint the top of a key. You can paint several if you like. I chose to just paint my house key, now I should be able to find it first try.

Good idea, my house key has a red plastic top to it, came that way, but the nail polish is a nice idea for other keys to be coded. I might also put some clear top coat over it for hopefully a longer lasting finish. And maybe add some other color polka dots. May as well have fun with it.
