Picnic Caddy

Make this lazy Susan Picnic Caddy for casual outdoor entertaining.

Summer is all about longer evenings and enjoying time with family and friends. I try to be prepared by planning ahead and having supplies ready for barbecues and picnics by making sure the picnic caddy is stocked and ready to go. Just doing simple things and planning ahead saves a lot of time and frustration.

With warm weather here I’ve been thinking a lot about all the outdoor eating we do as a family. You will find us enjoying most dinners and even some lunches out on the patio. I wanted to make something that would make Summer dinner prep a little easier and this lazy Susan picnic caddy seemed like the perfect answer.

Supplies needed for the Picnic Caddy:
tin buckets (6-7)
lazy Susan (IKEA)
chalkboard labels
spray paint
large tin can
chalk pen or chalk
E6000 glue

Please forgive my lack of pictures, some of the pictures didn’t turn out. I bought the tin buckets at Target for $1 each. I’ve also seen similar buckets at Hobby Lobby and Michael’s. I used my Cricut to cut out the cute chalkboard labels. Chalkboard labels can also be purchased at most craft stores. Use a chalk pen or a sharpened piece of chalk to write on the labels.

Spray paint the lazy Susan using your favorite Summer color or use what you have on hand. I prefer spray paint because it goes on smooth but you could also brush on acrylic paint.

Attach the buckets to the lazy Susan using a thin line of E6000 glue around the bottom. They could also be screwed to the lazy Susan through the bottom of the bucket. I might go back and do that later but for now the glue is holding fine. The center can is a large food storage can. It isn’t adhered to the lazy Susan so it can be exchanged with a drink pitcher or something else depending on what you want for that meal.

I have a trick I do when I don’t have enough flowers for the container size. I place a small vase inside the large one and place the flowers inside the small vase. It contains the flowers and looks better. This also works great with fresh flowers that need water.

Add the picnic paraphernalia and you’re ready to make your outside dining easier. Fill the buckets with eating utensils, straws, napkins, cups, and serving utensils. Place it in the center of the table and everyone is able to reach what they need.
