I love bottles! There’s so much you can do with them, plus they’re free if you don’t count what comes in them. This is one of my new favorite bottles. I love the simple shape.
The problem is getting the labels off. One of the simplest and cleanest ways to get the label off is by soaking it in hot water for a few minutes, peeling off what you can then using a plastic scraper to clean the rest off. I clean the remaining label off under hot running water. This works on most labels but there are a few that might require chemicals to help remove it.
I’m excited to make some fun new projects with my label-less bottles.
Even easier is to peel off what you can of the dry label – don’t worry if it’s not much, just pull off what isn’t really really stuck down.
Then wipe the remaining label with a little oil (any oil pretty much; baby oil, olive oil, veg oil, etc). Leave for a few minutes and the oil will break down the adhesive.
Then just wash in hot soapy water and the label will be completely gone with out any scrubbing, scraping and no sticky residue =)
Awesome, thanks!
I use a blowdryer to soften the glue. Most of the time the adhesive will come off with the label. W-D 40 works to remove the residue.
I love glass jars and bottles too, and I am always looking for new ways to upcyle them. Wanted to say that I recently tried straight vinegar to remove label goo and it totally worked great!! I do all that you did in your post and any leftover glue goo comes right off with vinegar. Cheap and non toxic :0)
If you let a little mayonnaise sit on the label it will come right off too. If there’s any residue left just rub a little more on it and clean it off. It’s the oil in the mayo.
