After the tweaking.
I have this little space at the top of the stairs. It’s between Emilee’s bedroom and the boy’s playroom, across the hall from the bathroom and just a few feet away from 3 bookcases. I didn’t want to leave the space empty since it’s the first thing you see at the top of the stairs. So about 2 years ago I put the rocking chair there for reading and added a thrift store picture and some plaques. Yeah, I know it’s boring and not welcoming at all, but that’s the way it stayed for a couple years. Then Friday I decided to go through my things and see what I could come up with.
I started with this book I bought a few months ago at Barnes and Noble. It was only $4 because the CD was missing. I love the pictures in it and I can think of a dozen more projects I can come up with using them.
Then I went through my frame stash and found frames that would work and didn’t need to be painted. I tore pages out of the book and tried them in the different frames until I liked the way they looked.
I had just filled all the nail holes upstairs and really wasn’t in the mood to make more holes in the wall so I used Command Strips to hang all the pictures. I use them for almost everything I hang. I’ve been asked by many people if they hold well. And the answer is yes they do. I’ve been using them for 4 years now and haven’t had one thing fall. I’ve also been asked if they come off easily. Yes, they come off very easily. Just follow the instructions for applying and removing. I have a little money saving secret too: if a frame or object is really light I cut the strips in half and only use half strips to hang it up. It works really well.
This is the wall next to the playroom. Did you notice I changed the picture in the oval frame? Sorry about the picture quality, the lighting wasn’t great.
This is the wall next to Emilee’s room.
Not bad for only $4 spent. I always have a pretty good frame stash. My secret is to buy thrift store frames and usually cover them in paint, but I liked the wood look for this area. I am thinking of painting the rocking chair though. Any suggestions?
I love your blog, as for the chair color my first thought was some shade of blue to pop the colors of the prints plus from what I’ve seen you don’t have alot of blue in your home it might be a good mix up. Just a friendly suggestion. Wishing you well.
I love the command strips too! However, I do not know how to use them when doing a grouping. How do you know where to put them so they are even and in the proper place? (I tried sticking them to the back of the picture and then on the wall but they will not hold that way..you need the waiting time.)
I was thinking a Robin’s egg blue too. Even a shade of green would look nice. Thank you for sharing your creative ideas!
