Peek Through Last Week x 2 (September 19-October 2)

What is my problem? I can’t seem to keep up on this simple post idea every week, so here’s 2 weeks again. Sorry, that means more pictures and probably less words.

SIDE NOTE: Hubby has 2 job interviews today. Keep everything crossed for us!

Sunday- Don’t ask me why this is working to keep the kids motivated but it is. Thanks goodness! I love not having to remind them as often to do their chores. And it’s nice for me to be able to glance at it and see what still needs to be done before they go out to play or hang out with friends.

Monday- My grandfather sent the 4 younger kids some coins to keep until they’re older (hopefully forever). My grandfather and father have a love for coins. They passed that love down to me, but not to the same extreme. I still have the Liberty Dollar my grandfather gave to me many years ago and I have collected all the state quarters for myself and all my kids. Ammon and Zach are thrilled to have them. The girls aren’t quite as excited as the boys, but they think they’re pretty cool.

Tuesday- Ammon turned 7 today. He had such a fun day starting out with taking cookies to school to share with all his friends. The house was decorated, presents were opened, his favorite foods were eaten and of course there was cupcakes and ice cream. He had one of his “best days ever”.

Wednesday- I have to show 2 pictures for today. The girls came home at different times and I had to show both of them. They played mud volleyball for the YW/YM Activity tonight. And they came home covered from head to toe. These pictures were even after they had been hosed down. I washed their clothes 3 times before they were clean.

Thursday- Amanda got another fish. This time from her Science teacher. I had used her fish bowl as a decoration in Zach’s room so she’s using my vase as a fish bowl. That’s fair, I guess. Let’s see how long this one lives before she brings a dead fish to me and asks me to get it out of the vase.

Friday- We live to close to the school for the boys to ride the bus, but Ammon talks about it a lot. He talks about his friends who ride the bus and can’t wait for a field trip so he can ride the bus again.

Saturday- Ammon didn’t get a friend party this year, but he really wanted to go to Park City with the family. So we packed a picnic and headed up the canyon after the soccer games. The boys did the Bungee Trampolines and the rest of us rode the Alpine Slide, then we went to a park for a picnic, played for a while and ended the day at Jake’s Over the Top for shakes. It was such a fun and relaxing day away from all the jobless stress for a while.

Sunday- We went to Orem for our niece, Marie’s birthday party. She’s 12 now. Wow, they grow up so fast. I made her some jewelry, a ring, necklace and bracelet. We had a yummy dinner Marie helped prepare herself and her mom made her usual yummy and beautiful cupcakes. Oh, I want more now!

Monday- We finally came up with a better way to read our scriptures as a family. We’ve never been able to read them as a family, in the morning. We’ve tried before bedtime and it lasts for a while and then dwindles away. So now we’re reading them at the dinner table and so far that seems to be working. It’s the one time when we’re usually all together as a family and aren’t preoccupied with other things. So far, so good!

Tuesday– Hubby and I have been having a hard time finding time together. We haven’t gone on a date for a while so we took a couple hours and went out to lunch today. Lunch is cheaper than dinner too. Pepperbelly’s, in Kaysville is so fun to eat at because of the food and atmosphere.  I took a lot of pictures I’ll have to share in an upcoming post. We had fried cheesecake for dessert. It was heaven.

Wednesday- The car broke down today. Of course it did. Why not, especially since we don’t have a job now. I hate cars. I really think they know when you’re having a bad day and they think “I can make it worse”. And then they do by breaking down. Grrrr!

Thursday- The boys were so past due on their haircuts. I am no good at haircuts and they couldn’t wait any longer so we took them to our wonderful across the street hair dresser (barber). Ammon has always loved getting his haircut. I think it’s relaxing for him. He was making faces in the mirror so I decided to snap some pictures. I love this one because it looks like Pat is torchering him.

Friday- It was finally the night Ammon had been asking for, for weeks. Once the boys got home from school, they all went out to set up the tent in the backyard. We brought out the sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, flashlights and food. Hubby started a fire in the firepit so we could roast marshmallows and make s’mores. We laid on the trampoline star gazing eating licorice and drinking soda (right before bed). Once inside the tent we watched a movie on the laptop. Hubby and I were out within the first 10 minutes, but the kids stayed up and watched it. The weather was perfect for camping in the backyard, but I’m good for another year.

Saturday– I look forward to going to the mountains and viewing the changing leaves all year long. Between Conference sessions we headed to higher elevations to check out the colors of Fall. It’s a little later this year, probably due to the warmer weather. It was a nice, relaxing walk. The kids picked up a few leaves and a couple rocks and Ammon picked up a few sticks. I think we’ll press some of the leaves between glass. Now I need to get my kids to collect acorns for me. This is my favorite picture. The wind was blowing and leaves started falling off the trees. All 3 of the younger kids put their arms out to touch the falling leaves. It was beautiful!
