I bought an unfinished tray at Ben Franklin on clearance a few months ago. It was 50% off then another 30% off, so I think I ended up paying about $2 for it. I went through my scrapbook paper and really liked this color and pattern, plus I had paint to match it already.
First I painted the tray ( I didn’t like how bright the yellow was so I found some stain and went over the paint with it). I like the color much better now. Then I mod podged the scrapbook paper on. I had to use 2 sheets of paper because the tray was too long. I pieced the papers together so the pattern matched. It looks pretty seamless. I made the letter J out of brown vinyl on my Cricut and stuck it in the center of the tray.
I sealed the whole tray with 3 coats of mod podge, inside and out. Ta-Da, the finished product and I only spent about $2. I did think about putting handles on it, but the tray curves out on the sides, so it’s already easy to handle and carry, plus I didn’t want to spend more money.
C.U.T.E!! You can’t beat 2 bucks either!! I was just reading about you and you are a busy woman! 8 kids!! That’s awesome!! I’ll have to check back and find good tips on organizing from you. This year I am getting the “bug”.

I am so happy you posted this today. I just found a swet little wooden tray with handles today at Goodwill for pennies. I am going to refer to your post when I get around to actually doing it. Great inspiration Thank you
