I don’t know about you but the last thing I want to do in the Summer is spend hours preparing meals in a hot kitchen. Our Summer days are pretty unstructured, but we try to stay active with swimming, hiking, biking and spending a lot of time exploring our city. I’m tired when we get home and I don’t want to spend a lot of time on meal prep, but since eating is a necessity I have to plan something. Menu planning for the week ahead and displaying it for the family to see has kept me in check and kept the “what’s for dinner” question at bay.
I like our Summer meals quick and easy and to heat up the kitchen as little as possible. We try to grill, use the crock-pot, and make cold dinners as much as possible. To be honest, nobody in my family likes to eat heavy meals when it’s hot outside. That goes for dessert too. Cold desserts are perfect with the meals I prepare this time of year.
I love pies! I have always preferred them over cake, even when it comes to birthdays. But I have the hardest time choosing between chocolate or fruit pies. Apparently my kids don’t have a hard time choosing though because all 3 of them chose EDWARDS® HERSHEY’S® Chocolate Crème Pie. I guess I can’t blame them, but I couldn’t pass up trying EDWARDS® Lemon Meringue Pie.
Edwards Whole Pies come ready to eat. Just thaw and serve! Seriously what could be easier? And have you tasted one? They are delicious. My kids love them. I love that they come in 9 different flavors at this time and my whole family looks forward to trying all of them.
We eat a lot of our dinners on the back patio. It’s shaded and a perfect place to eat, relax, and talk about our day. Some of our best family conversations come while we’re relaxed and eating dessert. If I can spend more time with my family and less time in the kitchen, I’m all for it.
My kids are older so I like to let them help in the menu planning. Of course they wanted pie every night but we limited it to 2 times this week. While preparing meals for hot Summer days we like to think of the main course then add grilled vegetables, salad, or fruit to the menu. It’s fast and easy and delicious!
Print off the Menu Printable below to help with your Menu Planning. You can laminate it or pop it in a frame like I did. Use a dry erase marker to write out your menu for the week and then start over the next week. Don’t forget to add Edwards Whole Pies to the menu.
Thanks for the printable! The pies are a great idea – I could see them working well for parties, too. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Very cute printable! I need to hang that on the fridge for my boyfriend :0 Also that pie looks amazing . . .
