McKenna’s Mobile

Whitney (my daughter) and I are throwing a baby shower for my niece (her cousin), so I thought I better get started on the decorations. This is like a variation on the fall leaf mobile I made a few weeks ago. I choose scrapbook paper in the colors the baby’s room is going to be decorated in. I used 2 different sized circle punches and punched out way too many for the mobile. You’ll also need:

Three Hoops

Ribbon- narrow and wide

Fishing Line

Beads

Adhesive

I started by wrapping the hoops with ribbon because I didn’t like the color for the mobile I was making. You could leave that out if you like the color or you could even spray paint it. I used ribbon because I wanted a softer look.

I cut my fishing line about 28″ long. That left me enough line to tie it to the hoop and put a bead on the end. I started with the smallest hoop and tied 4 lines on it across from each other. Then I just started attaching the circles to the line. I used a glue stick and stuck the circles together with the line in the middle. I have seven circle on each line. I used the glue stick as a ruler just to make sure they were spaced about the same.

There are 4 lines on the small hoop, 6 on the medium and 8 on the large. You could do more if you want, but this was not a fast project. I watched Amazing Race, Law & Order and Cold Case before I finished the mobile. I have so many circles left I might try another one, but I’ll wait a few days. Tie the hoops together with the wider ribbon and make a loop at the top to hang it from. I added the beads after I had the whole thing put together.

This is the finished product. Yes, I took the picture in my bathroom. It was night and I couldn’t find good lighting anywhere else in the house. I really need to start doing my projects during the day. Here’s a close up of the papers I used for the circles. I think it turned out great. I hope she can use it in the baby’s room after the shower too.

This is perfect for a little girl, so light and fluttery. 🙂 I enjoy everything about your blog! It truly is always a treat to stop by and see what you’ve posted about.

AND…I’m sooo sorry!! I think I somehow forgot to answer your Q on my beadboard walls in the dining room. Yes, we used real beadboard, not the paneling. Do you have the mudroom all finished yet? Looking forward to seeing it!
