Hiking With My Boys

The boys are off track this week and the weather is starting to warm up a little so we decided it would be a great day for a hike. This was Ammon’s first big hike. The first part of Adams Canyon is a lot of switch backs on soft dirt and it’s pretty steep. He only asked once if it was going to get easier. The boys are looking at our car and how far they’ve gone so far.

Taking a little break after all the switch backs and drinking some water.

Starting into the canyon. Ammon found the stick where we rested and used it the rest of the way.

They wanted to explore this rock, then saw the bats inside. I made them pose for this picture, before I’d let them come down. Zach was telling me to hurry up.

There is a lot of water this year.

We ran into snow at the top. We were actually about 7 minutes from the top. I had already helped Ammon through a few hard areas and I didn’t know if I could help him through the really tough part. I talked to some guys coming down and they said the rest of the trail had snow and was really wet and slippery. The boys were okay with turning around. We had already been hiking for an hour.

This is the bridge we crossed over.

The boys on the way back down.

There were a few places the trail just ended because the water had taken over. Ammon always looked a little lost at those points. We just had to climb a little more or get a little wet.

Coming back down to civilization.

My boys are so cute. They left their walking sticks on the fence for some other kids to use. It was a beautiful day for a 2 hour hike.

How fun! I can’t wait to do stuff like this with my daughter. I love that they left their hiking sticks, you know it totally made some other kid’s day. 🙂

Seeing those sticks up against the fence made my day. I just finished reading a talk by President Kimball from 1974 regarding small acts of service. That’s exactly what your boys did, for someone they’d never know. Thanks for being a good mom and teaching your boys well.
