Hawaii- Day 2

My little guy was having a hard time with the realization that his mom and dad were leaving for a week. I made a deal with him that I would post pictures everyday that we’re gone. He said that it would make him feel like he was here with us. How cute is that? So there’s going to be a lot of vacation pictures the next few days. I hope you enjoy them as much as Ammon.

We decided today we’d hike to a waterfall. We drove a short way to the beginning of the trail head that leads to Manoa Falls.

There we parked, picked up some walking sticks and were on our way. We were trying to decide if we really needed the walking sticks. 90% of the trail we didn’t, but we were really glad we had them the other 10%.

The trail started out as a slight incline and dry, but soon it became pretty rocky, wet, muddy and slippery.

You should see our shoes now.

The scenery was amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it before. The bamboo was one of my favorite sights.

The further up we went, the more damp the air became. It never actually rained on us, but there were clouds circling overhead the whole time. It’s a real rain forest and we were feeling damp by the time we got to the falls.

Due to possible landslides, we didn’t have access to the waterfall.

It’s a 150 foot waterfall.

With a small pool at the bottom. I wa standing on a rock to get this picture.

I can’t even describe how green it is. Doesn’t this remind you of Jurassic Park?

On our way down from the Falls, we stopped at the Lyon Arboretum.

It’s a 194 acre tropical rain forest research center. It’s connected to the University of Hawaii.

We stopped at the Treetop Restaurant for lunch and had our picture taken on the balcony we ate on.

Apparently they filmed some scenes from LOST here. There are the cages and there’s still some light and sound stands set up.

Back at the hotel, into our swimsuits then to the beach to relax and enjoy the waves and sand for a while.

A view of Diamond Head from the beach.

And Hubby (daddy) on the break wall. He was tempted to try to cross it until 3 teenage boys got knocked off by a wave.

We’re having a great time. What a fantastic way to celebrate 30 years together.
