1 cup flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbls baking cocoa
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
2 tbls vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts, optional
Because I have a large family and we like dessert, I doubled the recipe above.
Mix flour, granulated sugar, 2 tbls cocoa, baking powder, salt and 1/4 tsp cinnamon.
Stir in milk, oil and vanilla with fork until smooth. Stir in nuts (optional).
Spread in ungreased square pan (since I doubled the recipe, I used a rectangle pan).
In medium bowl, mix 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup baking cocoa and 1/4 tsp cinnamon (I doubled this also). Sprinkle over batter.
Pour 1 3/4 cups boiling water over batter.
Bake cake 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.
Let stand 15 minutes.
Spoon cake with sauce into individual dishes. Top with ice cream, if desired (I didn’t have any on this day). It’s so yummy! We devoured it.
Edited: I’ve had a few questions about the sauce. The cake makes the sauce while it’s baking. Cool huh? The sauce is on the bottom of the pan, so when you spoon the cake out take the sauce off the bottom and add it to the top of each serving. YUM!
And here’s my cute $5 apron from Ross.
This is a great recipe. I’m going to try it on Sunday.
What kind of sauce did you put on it? Mmmm…chocolate and cinnamon…can’t go wrong with that!
Oh. Wow. That looks absolutely DELICIOUS! I’m definitely going to try that. I’m officially drooling! What kind of sauce did you put on the top?
Oh my… would you like to send me some? That looks so good! Mouthwatering.
