I’m only taking out a portion of my Christmas decorations this year. There’s a couple reasons: I liked my approach to easy care decorating at Thanksgiving and wanted to continue that feeling, and I have just way too many Christmas decorations and finally realized I didn’t have to display all of them every year. Here’s some ideas I used to make my decorating style easy and more relaxed.
Use what you have. These gates hang on a wall in my entry. I thought they would be a perfect place to hang Christmas cards this year. I used ornament hangers to hang them from the gates. Quick, easy, and a fun place to display the cards.
Make it as simple as possible. I made this frame for Halloween, then used it for Thanksgiving, now Christmas. The clothespins make it easy to change out quickly.
And I couldn’t of made it easier this time. I just cut these word strips off a scrapbooking card.
Change it out. I love this floating frame. The Fall leaves looked great in it, now the Christmas postcards look great too.
And you can still read the writing on the cards. Does anyone know how long ago you could mail a postcard with a 1 cent stamp?
Fill a jar. Add ornaments to a jar and you’ve got a colorful, glittery, shiny, beautiful display.
My vintage ornaments are in a jar, out of the reach of little hands. Maybe they’ll go on the tree next year.
Add some light. Candlelight or a string of lights makes everything reflective and more beautiful.
Use something from the kitchen. Decorate with food (hmmm, candy). Can that be considered food? I think in December you’re allowed to count it as food. (picture from Real Simple).
Wrapped gifts as decor. Wrap up those gifts you’re going to have to wrap anyway and use them to decorate your home. I love these sitting on this gorgeous red chair. (picture from Real Simple).
Add to what’s already there. Just tuck in a few Christmas baubles here and there and you’re good. They really stand out against everyday items.
A little goes a long way. Something as simple as a few ornaments hanging from a ribbon might be all a space needs. Do you decorate your bathrooms for Christmas? I know I need trim around the mirror. That’s on my list for after Christmas.
These are some of the easy decorating ideas I’m using this year. What about you? Do you have ideas you use to make your decorating easy and your home beautiful during this holiday season?
I’m afraid I’m a bit behind (LAZY!) in our house decorating for this year. I did put out some cloches filled with peppermints and add a few bows around the house, but that’s it so far!
If you get a chance later today, I’d love for you to stop by to link up to my Not “Baaad” blog hop 🙂
I really like your “keeping it simple” approach. I haven’t done that, but I still like the idea & may be I’ll go that route next year.
