When something in a magazine interests me I cut the picture out and put it in a binder. Hopefully someday I’ll actually make it or use it as some sort of inspiration. I cut this picture out last year. I think it was from Better Homes and Gardens, but I’m not sure. Cute flags, huh?
I’ve had these pails for a few years. I bought them from the $1 section in Target.
I looked through my fabric stash and picked out the fabric I wanted to use for the flags. To make them as easy as possible I used pinking shears instead of sewing them. I cut my pieces 4 1/2 x 5″. I think their flags are bigger though.
I cut a skinny dowel into 3 equal pieces (you could use a skewer instead of a dowel). Then I wrapped the material around the dowel and secured it with hot glue.
I made 12 flags, 3 out of each fabric.
I stuck one flag of each
fabric in the pails.
Arranging them a little different
and securing them with beans.
And then I put them on the shelf in the Entry with my new little boat.
Another quick, easy and inexpensive 4th of July decoration.
thanks for stopping by my site. You used two of my favorite things – things from the Target dollar section AND a no-sew project! what a cute little festive display or centerpiece you have there. so fun.
Oh this is super cute! Love the simplicity. Adorable Fabrics! Visiting from TJ. Hope you have a wonderful week! ~ Stephanie Lynn
That looks so simple, and soo cute too!! What a great inexpensive way to decorate! Visiting from tip junkie
i really like those, i can definitly see my little neices and nephews having fun with those on the 4th!
i like to find ways to dress up non specific decor stuff, (to save on storage space) so i could cover a clear vase or recycle bin jar with scrapbook paper and put the flags in there..
or clear vases and layer red white and blue M&Ms (or jelly beans) in them instead of the beans. before the fireworks, pass out little cups of the candies for the guests to eat them so they dont go to waste!
what a great and festive look! love it!
Too cute Leanne!!
Love it! I have started tearing out pics from magazine that I hope to craft one day as well. I have not gotten them to the binder yet, they are a stack on my desk still. TFS!
Quick and easy–I love it!!!
This is adorable! I think I am gonna steal the idea from you if you don’t mind. It’s so simple but definitely cute!
Hi, Leanne! I love your cute little flags. 🙂 They look so neat all grouped together!
This is darling! I think I saw that same article and loved the little flags. I am going to try this for our 4th of July decorations! Thanks for the idea:).
I’m loving this! I think I’ll take it outside. Won’t the flags be cute flapping in the breeze? (I hope we have a breeze!)
Would love for you to stop by tonite/tomorrow for Fab Finds for the Fourth! Readers will love this project!
Stopping by from Centsational Girl…love your ideas. I have to know about the clock/wheel behind the pails on the shelf. Details please????? You may have already talked about it before, but I’m new here, so any help would be great. Thanks!
What a cute idea! It looks great!
I love this idea. I really like ways to switch up the stuff I already have into something cute for the holidays.

I can’t believe how many great ideas I’m getting from the Stars and Stripes Party! I love how your flags turned out! They’re so festive, and I’m thinking that this idea would work well for other holidays too. Thanks so much for sharing!

This is something even my non-sewing self could do, and it’s perfect for a quick, last-minute party decoration. I hope you don’t mind if I link you up on my site. Thanks for the tutorial!
I clipped the same photo. Yes, it was from an interior photo shoot at BHG last year. I love your mantle!
