I have always thought Multi Functional Furniture was important when organizing and decorating a home, but going from a larger home to a smaller home has made me realize it even more. I’m much more selective while choosing furniture by making sure most of it has at least 2 functions. Sometimes it’s hard to find exactly what you need so I have gathered some of my favorite DIY Multi Functional Furniture pieces for this post. Make sure to visit each blog for a full tutorial.
Let’s start with an ottoman. It has to be my favorite piece of multi functional furniture. We store Rock band and Guitar Hero pieces in the one in our family room. I store blankets and bed linens in the one in our closet, it also serves as a great place to sit to put our shoes on. Place a tray on top and it becomes a flat surface similar to a coffee table. Since I purchased mine instead of making it I wanted to share this beautiful Storage Ottoman by Reality Daydream.
My organizing loving heart loves this Coffee Table by Her Tool Belt. It houses 4 crates to hide and hold things out of sight but close by. She even made some adorable seats out of crates.
How handy is this Kitchen Island by Sawdust 2 Stitches! Not only is it functional by having garbage and recycling built right in but it’s also a beautiful piece. You won’t believe what it started out as.
Everyone needs some sort of storage close to their entryway but there isn’t always enough space. Even though this isn’t a total DIY piece Love Grows Wild has made this Entryway Storage function for her family by adding baskets and totes for storage. She also added some labels and wood crates to make it her own. It also serves as a buffet table when needed.
I love this space saving Mirror Folding Table by Handimania. It would be perfect for my daughter’s room. This might be one of the first of these projects that I try to make.
Talk about a functional piece. This Headboard/Dressing Area by vtwonen is pretty amazing. If you have a room without a closet that you are using as a bedroom, this is the perfect piece for that room.
Who doesn’t love a great place to curl up with a book and a window seat is the perfect place. Add storage cabinets under the seat and you can store almost anything in that space. Censational Girl is sharing how she built this beautiful Window Seat for her home.
Some people are so creative. Start at Home made a Bench out of a dresser and it turned out amazing. Not only is it a bench but it also has plenty of storage. I love the color she painted it too.
I made this Outdoor Crate Table last Summer and it has made outdoor entertaining so much easier, plus I love how it turned out. Not only is the top versatile but there is tons of storage space while entertaining. I don’t usually leave things in the table since it outdoors, but the storage is convenient while using the outdoor space.
I don’t have a dog but this Dog Crate Table by Jenny Froh is the one I would make if I did. You would never know it was a dog crate when the curtain is closed.
File cabinets are seldom pretty but they’re usually a necessity. I love this file cabinet disguised as a Storage Bench by Better When Built. I’m thinking almost any bench could be converted by making an insert to fit the files if you don’t want to make a whole bench.
Playroom storage is always in high demand. You want to have plenty of storage but also look great from a decorating standpoint. I Heart Organizing has incorporated a great Seating/Storage Bench Area in her playroom that produces lots of seating and toy storage.
I hope these projects and pieces have inspired you to think of incorporating multi functional furniture in your home. Which project will you start first?
I liked that entryway furniture with baskets and totes for multipurpose storage. And on the top, the mirror made it look more beautiful.
