The only pots I could find that didn’t have left over dirt in them were these small ones. What the heck can I do with these? Then I had a great idea. Let’s see what I can do when I add a bird and a nest to the mix.
First, I primed and then painted everything with a creamy white. I’m painting in the garage because it’s raining again. I wonder if it will ever get above 70 degrees here this year.
Then I thinned out the burnt umber paint with water and brushed it on everything. Let it set for a few minutes then wipe it off with a paper towel. I used a lite hand wiping it off, especially on the pots.
Here’s a before and after example.
After I stained the bird, I added another layer to the pots and dabbed it off this time instead of wiping. The bird kept more of the stain because of all the grooves. I think the pots look better now.
Here they are by the front door, on the tall candlestick holders.
I turned the one pot upside down and glued the bird on top.
I added some moss to the other pot then glued the nest on top of that.
Aren’t they cute? I’m happy with how they turned out. Maybe now I’ll make a bigger one for the front porch.

Looks great! I may just borrow this idea 🙂
This turned out so cute! I love your take on the plump bird decor which is just about taking over blogland, like the chicken heart that ate New York City (which is an old Bill Cosby comedy routine) And displaying them on the stand is so clever!
LuV it!!! I left “Just Something I Whipped UP”, hopped through Blogsville, and landed HERE! That is AWESOME:) I suscribed to your feed!
