I saw this on a couple sites, but can’t remember which ones. I think one of them was Young House Love. Anyway, I thought it was really fun and the kids would get a kick out of it. First I found a bat I really liked on The Graphics Fairy and I printed him off, because I can’t even draw a bat.
Then I cut him out and traced him on black cardstock 10 times. Then I had a whole swarm of bats to cut out. Are a lot of bats called a swarm?
I started attaching them to the inside of the lampshades with tape, but some weren’t sticking very well so I changed to glue dots. Put a glue dot in the center and on each wing, then stick to the inside of the lampshade. You can see them when the light is on, but can’t even tell they’re there when it’s off.
This lamp has a lining in it, so the bats look fuzzy. Hubby likes this one better.
I think they turned out great. I turned the lamps on for the boys and their reaction was “Whoa, that’s cool!” I love that my kids are impressed by very little money or effort and their mom’s awesome decorating skills.
Thanks for visiting.
Hi Leanne,
This is a really cool idea. My kids are gonna ♥ it 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my blog & leaving such a sweet comment. I love yours! Such great ideas!
Whoa, that is cool! : ) I like both of them, the second one looks more like bats by the moon through clouds ~ spooky.
Hi Leanne,
This is so fun!!! My kids would have loved this when they were little. I love that you can easily change it out too, when your done. Thanks so much for playing along today for “Brag Monday”, I really appreciate you playing along and sharing your fun project!!
The batty lampshades are a really fun idea!! Love your site, I’ll be back to visit again!
That is really cool. I’m going to try this as I have some black card stock. Now I just need some glue dots & we are in business. Oh, I guess I need to cut out some bats. Small minor detail. lol. Thanks for sharing.
So cute! I love it! I think I’m going to have to do a batty lamp too! Thanks so much for sharing in the Fall Festival! 🙂

I’m pretty impressed myself! This really is a lot of bang for the buck! I HAD to know–a group of bats is called a colony or camp of bats– File this under “interesting trivia you will never use”.
This is a really fun idea for Halloween…..I can see why your boys liked the finished project.
