My youngest is 6 years old. He started 3/4 day kindergarten this year so we don’t get to spend as much alone time together as we used to. Lately he’s shown an interest in wanting to take pictures. When I’m taking pictures around the house, he’ll follow me and give suggestions of what I should take pictures of next. A few days ago he asked if he could have the camera to take pictures. I showed him how to put the strap around his wrist so he wouldn’t drop it and he was off. Here’s some of the pictures he took.
He took the usual one’s of people. His sister, Amanda.
His brother, Zach.
His sister, Emilee.
His cousin, Laura.
His cousin, Marie.
His Dad.
His Uncle.
His Mom. I don’t know what I’m doing.
And, of course, himself.
But, this is where it gets interesting. I asked him why he took these pictures. He said he liked these flowers on the wall.
And he likes this black candle “thing” on the wall, even though the other kids always knock it off and break pieces. And they do!
He liked that I put his letter on a ball.
And that I put the letter of his last name on the tray.
He said he liked the bird and the “J”, but not really the candle holder.
He said he wanted to hang some of his things on the gate piece too, since it’s by his bedroom.
And he was happy I decorate for “stuff”.
He wanted to show me there wasn’t anything on his chalkboard or clip and asked me if I could put something on it.
And he said this pillow was soft and he likes sitting in this chair.
Basically, these things remind him of home. I think it’s interesting he didn’t take any pictures of his toys. I think I’ll give him the camera more often and see what he comes up with next. It might be insightful for me and I might even let him hang something of his on the gate. This is what the chalkboards look like now. See, he’s already inspired me to do something.
Have a beautiful weekend!
He’s too cute! I think you have a future photographer on your hands!
That is so interesting, and sweet! = )
Such an interesting and amazing post! I have found too that my children (all boys) appreciate it when I decorate. Somehow it is important to them. Decorating may be a joy for mom, but it benefits everyone. What a cutie you have taking all those photos!
Sounds like you have a very thoughtful and adorable son! I miss my boys when they were that age! Such a sweet age. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings,
Sandi
What a cutie!!! Back when my baby was that age(now 21) I would learn things with his writings. Always writing something.
Thank you so much for sharing a sweet and touching moment(or is that lesson) in your life.
