I love decorating the walls in my home but since I’m renting and have a strict landlord, I have to find ways to do it without damaging them in any way. I love that you can add personality to your home with Vinyl Wall Decals without damaging the walls or any other surfaces. Here are a couple of my favorite ways to use vinyl on different surfaces.
We had a mudroom in our last house and I had a framed graphic to remind the kids of what they needed to do once they returned home from school. When I bought these lockers a few months ago I knew I wanted something similar on them. I was able to speak to Lisa at Custom Vinyl Decor about customizing this piece for the side of the lockers. I am so happy with how it turned out.
I’ll give the steps to applying vinyl decals if you haven’t applied them before. Full instructions come with the vinyl order also. I use a level to make sure the piece is straight then use a pencil to make a mark on the clear sheet and the surface it’s being applied too. Make 2 marks towards the top of the vinyl on each side so you can line them up.
Now with the vinyl right side up burnish it to the clear sticky transfer sheet by rubbing across it with a credit card.
Turn it over, then carefully peel the grid paper off the back making sure none of the letters stick to it. It comes off very easily.
Line up your marks at the top of the transfer sheet then apply the vinyl decal to the surface of your choice. Start in the center and smooth the transfer out to the edges. Use a credit card or wallpaper smoother to burnish the letters to the surface.
Now you can peel the transfer sheet off. Peel at a 45 degree angle. If any letters stick to the sheet simply lay the sheet back over the letters and rub with credit card again. Sometimes I use my fingernail if it’s a small area.
Now enjoy it! I love this custom piece and that it represents our after school routine. Custom Vinyl Decor has many stock pieces available in a variety of colors and they will also work with you to make custom pieces to reflect your home and family.
The doors in our rental home are all flat and quite boring. I wanted to cheer them up a little so I decided to add these vinyl frames to the door that leads to the garage and the closet door to the side of it. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes so you can customize them to fit any space. My frames are 8×10 and 5×7.
I laid them out in the pattern I wanted and hung them with tape, then made any adjustments I needed before they were permanent. I really like the random placement.
I adhered them to the wall using the same steps as I used in the other vinyl decal application. The frames have wider pieces of vinyl so I found it easiest to apply them by pulling the transfer sheet off with one hand and holding the vinyl down with the other hand. Taking the transfer sheet off at a 45 degree angle really is the best way to guarantee easy transfer sheet removal.
I filled the frames with some pictures and quotes but will probably be changing some of them at the start of school. I used scotch removable mounting squares to adhere the photos and quotes inside the frames so I can change things out whenever I want.
I am so impressed with Custom Vinyl Decor and their dedication to their customers and employees. They employ stay-at-home moms so they can help support their families but also stay at home and raise their children. Custom Vinyl Decor is also a family business where they are teaching their children everything about the business and also principles of financial responsibility.
I have always felt it was important to support small businesses and the contributions they make to the community. Not only that but I love the product and the personality it brings to my home. Take a look at the variety of decals and colors available. They would be great in your own home or as a house warming gift.

I’ve been thinking about what I can do to add some personality to my home. It didn’t even cross my mind to try vinyl wall decals. The ideas that you shared are really great; the frames on the door are genius! I’ve never used wall decals before, so I’m glad that you mentioned the importance of measuring them ahead of time.
Love this vintage style!
