The next thing I wanted to do to the bottles was glitter them. You can check out how I drilled the holes in the back of the bottles here. I used Goo Gone to take off the sticky residue that was left over from the label. It also removes stamps that are on the bottles.
Then I taped off the area I wanted to glitter. I taped it off where the neck of the bottle starts to get skinnier.
I brushed mod podge on the bottom part of the bottle then sprinkled on the glitter.
I left them dry a few minutes.
Then carefully peeled the blue tape off. I love the 2 tone look. I think it will show the glow of the lights better too.
So how do you like the glittered bottles? I think they’re pretty gorgeous!
Have a Wonderful Wintery Weekend!
What a great idea! I’m loving glittery decor this Christmas!

These just look so great! I love the sparkle you used. I may have to do some of these for winter decor now that Christmas is coming down.
Thank you so much for sharing your creative idea! I love it!!
the glitter bottles are a neat idea!
Your bottles are beautiful! What a wonderful idea! I’m now a follower!
Looks like everyone is saying it, but such a great idea! These are so cute!
LOVE!! Thinking they will be a great center piece idea for our wedding!! Getting the lights with batteries instead of a plug!! Thanks for sharing!
question for you – did you put a layer of something on top of the glitter so that the glitter couldn’t be rubbed off?
What a great idea! I’ve been saving my glass jars for over a year now and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with them and I think I finally found out! Thanks so much for the inspiration! Happy New Year!
What did you use for the snow man bottle?
SO PRETTY! Love this!! : )
These are amazing! I’ve pinned these to my wedding inspiration boards!!
This would be great to do on little candle holders. I would probably use a different glue, though and spray with fixative to make sure it doesn’t “shed”. Just imagine the sparkle from the inside. You could even use the little battery candles if you didn’t want a real flame in your craft!
How did you get the glitter to stick to the bottles?? And how do you keep the glitter on?? Please let me know i sooo want to do this thank you!
How did you get the candles inside the bottle
How beautiful! What a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
Did anyone else actually do this? I am planning on doing this tomorrow night and was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips & how they turned out… Thanks!
Hi – found you via Karen’s blog and Pinterest. These are gorgeous…I have some cobalt blue beer bottles (Michelob Platinum I think) that will look stunning with glitter on them! But I was thinking: what about, instead of drilling holes, you dropped a couple of these inside each bottle?
I did another variation of this decoration. I used a jar and hot glue. I put swirley looking designs on the jar then glitter on the hot glue while it was still hot and Tada! Beautiful centerpieces. But don’t forget to Spray them with aerosol hair spray so the glitter won’t come off! Simply Beautiful!
You didn’t really describe it well enough for me to understand. How did you get the glitter to stick? What kinds of lights did you put in them??
Such an Awesome idea , I just wanted to know what is mod podge ? is it a special kind of glue?
To Rona:
Mod Podge is a waterbase sealer, glue and finish all in one jar! You can use it on many different crafts, including glueing and sealing puzzles together so that you can mount them on a board or in a frame, decoupaging pictures on wood, and for use on any surface.
Rona — it is a glue that you can get from walmart (or craft stores) It’s literally called Mod Podge. It’s normally used to glue puzzles together..
This is a GREAT idea.. I’m going to use it for my fall themed wedding (with different colors of glitter)
You can use Epsom salt instead of glitter if you don’t like the idea of glitter everywhere. Beautiful on candles too.
Starting out from scratch after my last divorce; this is a wonderful way to recycle and create a themed Christmas without the intense price!
What type of lights did you use? Thanks!
I use battery powered Christmas lights.
I use “craft” mini lights you can order them online – there is only a plug on one end instead of two ends. I drill a hole in the bottle (I have a diamond tipped 1/2″ drill bit and my husband’s drill), then feed the lights into the hole, leave the plug hanging out, and there you have it! This will be something different and neat for the holidays.
Hi I was just wondering does the glitter wash off as want to decorate some drinking glasses this way but want people to be able to use again? Please thank you x
I spayed a clear coat over the top of the glitter but I still wouldn’t trust it to not wash off. I don’t wash these bottles, I just give them a light dusting. I probably wouldn’t use the glitter on drinking glasses.
I was wondering what type of mod podge you used. I was going to buy some when I saw that there are different types like glossy, matte, etc. What kind works best for this project?
Ideas for the lights?
The lights are a strand of 20 Christmas lights. There is a link on how to drill the holes for the lights in the post.
What type of glitter did you use? Which brand?
Hi there, gorgeous bottles. I have tried these a few times with Mod Podge and a small, medium and large brush. How do you get your Mod Podge so even? I have streaks which show up in the light? Thanks!
Did you use any special type of glitter, like extra fine? Also, did you go heavy with the Mod Podge?
Thanks. 🙂
