Turkey Day Favors

Hubby’s parents are hosting Thanksgiving Dinner this year. It’s nice to not be in charge of everything, but it also makes me feel a little guilty when we’re only asked to bring mashed potatoes and noodles. I’ll probably bring my cranberry salsa too, but I also wanted to do something else. I saw some cute turkeys on a morning show and decided to make my own for Thanksgiving favors.

Start with Hershey Treasures. I cut scrapbook paper in 1 x 3 1/4″ strips, wrapped each piece of candy with the paper, and secured it with double sided tape on the bottom.

Then I used my Cricut to cut out a flower shape in 3 different sizes. You could use punches if you don’t have a cutting machine. They measure 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, and 1 3/4″. I chose a flower that most resembled turkey feathers to me.

I layered the flowers and secured them using double sided tape.

Then I cut part of the bottom off so it would fit on the candy better.

I used double sided tape to secure it to the candy body.

Then it was time to make the heads. I used a 1 1/8″ punch to make the circle for the head.

Then cut 1/2″ squares for the beak.

Once folded into triangles, they were starting to look like beaks.

I glued the beak and google eyes to the head.

And then used double sided tape to secure the head to the body. Isn’t he cute?

40 little turkeys ready for Thanksgiving Day favors. They could also be used as place cards by simply writing a name on the back of the tail feathers. These took me 2 days, working on them here and there, but I think they turned out pretty cute. I hope hubby’s family likes them.

How cute is that! Thanks for sharing. Too late for me to do this year but will definitely bookmark for next year.

We were talking to Taylor the other day about Thanksgiving and he said, “Oh yeah! That’s the day we get those little turkey chocolates!” I couldn’t believe he actually remembered these from last year! So I promised him we’d make some this month. Glad this tutorial is still here! 🙂
