Candy Box Easter Basket

We don’t spend a lot of money on Easter presents but we have always given the kids a small basket or gift. As they’ve gotten older it’s been harder to not spend more money than usual. I like to give hubby a little gift too so this Candy Box Easter Basket is perfect for hubby and the kids.

Candy Box Easter Basket made with theatre candy boxes and wrapping paper

We have movie night every Friday night and the kids get to pick their favorite candy to enjoy with popcorn as we watch the movie, so it’s not hard to choose my kid’s favorite candies to make the baskets. This is hubby’s basket because I don’t want to spoil all the surprises for my kids.

Supplies needed:

5 boxes of candy
Nerd’s rope candy
Wrapping paper
Ribbon
Hot glue gun
Tape

Candy Box Easter Basket ingredients

Pick boxes that fit together well, at the store, so you know they will be able to make the basket. They don’t have to be the exact size, just close enough to work. Hot glue the long candy boxes to the bottom box.

Hot glue the side candy boxes to the long boxes and the bottom box. Make it as square and even as possible. I had to pull the top of the long boxes in a bit to make it square.

Now comes the fun part. It took me a minute to figure out how to fold the wrapping paper around the box. but once I figured it out it was easy. Cut the wrapping paper the size you would if you were wrapping a present. I added an extra inch just to be safe. Place the basket on top of the paper wrong side up. Cut slits towards the short candy boxes along the edge of the side box. Fold the paper to the inside of the box and tape in place. Do the same on the other side.

Fold the long sides like a present but leave the bottom flap out for a step. Make nice corners on the top and fold inside the basket and tape in place. Do the same on the other side.

Now take the bottom flap and fold it under the basket. Tape it in place.

This is a better view of the folds and inside of the basket. You don’t need to worry about covering all of the inside with wrapping paper because the Easter grass will be hiding it.

Now it’s time to make the handle. I decided to cover the Nerds rope with ribbon to give it a finished look. Wrap the ribbon around the rope securing the ends with hot glue.

Candy Box Easter Basket handle

Attach the handle to the basket with hot glue. I’m not good at eye balling the center, so I measured to find the center of the side of the basket.

Add shredded paper or Easter grass inside the basket. Now you can add little gifts like nail polish, chap stick, small toys, jewelry, filled Easter eggs, etc.

I can’t show you what I’m filling the baskets with yet, but I love that it’s a gift inside a gift. How long do you think it will take them to figure out the basket is actually boxes of candy?
