Welcome to Day 13 of 31 Days of 15 Minute Organizing
I depend on my calendar and day planner to help me keep myself and my family organized. I prefer paper but you can take care of things electronically if that’s what you prefer. I keep reoccurring events on my phone and also have several things in the notes area of my phone. Basically I prefer my day planner at home and my phone for when I’m out of the house.
Organizing Your Calendar
Pick a day (Sunday works best for me) and spend 15 minutes planning out your week and your family’s schedule. Write down any sport, school, or church activities, parties, meetings, or any special events that are taking place. By planning a week at a time you can make adjustments or figure out carpool rides, if necessary. Revisit your calendar every morning to make any adjustments you might need too. I loved when my kids started driving so they could take themselves to most of their activities.
I give each family member a color so I can glance at the calendar and know who it pertains too. It also helps me notice if someone is over scheduled and if we need to make adjustments in any way. My kids also have a planner where they write down school assignments and activities and then I add them to mine once a week. Especially big assignments that might take a couple of weeks to complete.
I also use different colors for different areas of my life such as: work, recreation, church, projects, etc. Make your calendar/planner work for you so that you only have to take a few minutes a day reviewing it. It should help keep you on track and not be stressed by everything that needs to be accomplished throughout the day.
