Eggs In Crate

That’s an original title, huh? Why did I get started on eggs and nests? Now I can’t stop. This is what I started with. The cute little shadow box was at Dollar Tree along with the moss and eggs.

To paint the eggs, I stuck a toothpick in the bottom of the eggs and then held onto the toothpick while I painted. I stuck the toothpick in the box to let them dry. I love this blue (Deco Art Spa Blue).

I used the same blue to speckle the brown eggs. And I used a brown to speckle the blue eggs. Looks like I speckled the deck a little too. That’s okay, it needs to be stained again.

I made little nests out of the Spanish moss. Wow, that stuff makes a mess!

Nine little nests, ready for eggs.

Insert little eggs and admire how cute it turned out.

Amanda and Ammon want to play tic-tac-toe with it. I told them I’d make them a game, if they’d leave the eggs alone. It does look like a tic-tac-toe game. I guess brown won.

Isn’t it so cute!

I love the brown and blue eggs together. I think that’s it with eggs for a while. Umm, except for the ones we’re coloring tomorrow.

Soooo cute! I see those boxes at dollar tree all the time and wonder what I could do with them. This is the perfect use, how creative! I love it!

Leanne, those are some darling eggs. Love the brown with the blue, so cute.
Hope you are able to get out of the storms this weekend. I think shooting eggs this year will have to be postponed. It just won’t stop snowing. The kids are going to be disappointed. We’ll have to find an indoor activity.
Have a great weekend with family.

Very cute! The kids are right ~ it does look like a tic tac toe game! Love the blue you used and I’ll have to look for that shadow box next time I’m at Dollar Tree {I’ve got a couple of ideas for that}.

So cute! I was looking for those shadow boxes at the Dollar Tree the last time I was there. They must of been sold out. I was going to buy one just because. Now, I have a plan!

Super cute! Thanks for posting where you found the little crate! I have a tic tac toe game I picked up in Denmark a few years back that I was wanting to copy it and make my own, it came in a similar style box. I’m super excited now, I thought i’d have to get the hubs to make one! Yay

Very cute project, I really missed the ball on all the spring egg crafts this year. But this would be a fun one to have out for awhile longer so onto my to do list it goes☺

Very cute, Leanne, no wonder you’ve been on an egg kick.

  • diane April 6, 2010, 9:32 pm

Looks like a pricey find from Anthropologie – great job! I think I might want to do one for me and then let my kids do a kid version for themselves – that way they just might keep their paws off of Mine!

  • Jeanine at One Cheap B*tch April 7, 2010, 8:38 am

I love the look! So perfect and I feel like the eggs aren’t just for Easter. I’m keeping mine out all year because they make me happy! I wish I would have known your toothbrush technique when I tried to do the splatter paint on mine – mine came out terrible and were trashed immediately!

So, cute. I also love your frame nest. I am searching for things to do over my couch. By the way the bird/birdbath candle holder you have in the picture… I have on too. It sits by my sink in the kitchen
