Craft/Decor Room- Part 1

Due to financial circumstances I won’t be getting a craft room anytime soon, but that hasn’t stopped me from pretending I have one. This area is in our unfinished basement and will be my craft room someday. My goal is to be able to fit all my crafting and decorating supplies in this one room with the exception of some bigger pieces of furniture.

My scrapbooking and paper craft supplies are kept in this area, along with hoards of pictures I need to go through.

The wall files hold scraps of solid and patterned papers. I’m going to spray paint them white as soon as it warms up a little here.

Here’s some of my ribbon stash. I used the cropadile to make the holes in the photo boxes for the ribbon to come through. The boxes to the right were purchased from Hobby Lobby about 2 years ago.

I have larger rolls of ribbon on the curtain rods above the storage boxes. The wire basket below the rods hold string.

More crafting supplies, ric rac, and ribbon. The wood box is going to be painted white also.

I labeled all the drawers with my handy dandy label maker. I know where everything is, but the labels sure help hubby or the kids be able to find something if I need them too.

This bookshelf holds supplies for projects, frames, idea binders, and some decorating supplies. I need to cover the magazine holders in paper still. You can see more of the unfinished basement in the background.

The dressers hold mostly fabric, some storage boxes and a few more craft supplies. I want the decorating items to look good while they’re being stored. The shutters and some of the gates aren’t being used right now but they look pretty good just leaning against the wall. It will look much better once there’s actually a wall there.

So that’s half of the room. I have 2 big tables put together as my work surface. I like to spread out, plus there’s plenty of room when I have friends over to craft. The decluttering has helped so much in this area. I even have some half-full drawers now.

What have you been organizing or decluttering lately?

Very nice! I’ve got to go face mine-you can’t even walk through it right now! I’ve been walking over piles for months! How do you store your punches? That’s my big dilemma right now. The plastic drawers cave in from the weight-and even though I have a room—I don’t have the wall space for the towel rack method. Like the photo box idea for the ribbon. I got a cabinet (in its former life an entertainment center) and the plastic racks for videos nest the ribbons nicely!

What a fantastic space to work in! Love the ribbon storage… and I would love a big ol’ table like that. (I like to spread out, too!)

I love how organized it is, Leanne! I really need to work on mine. Maybe I should go do that now. 😉

What kind of labeler do you use? I bought one from Walmart and the labels all curled up and fell off what I labeled so I returned it.

Tell me about your cabinets with the bins that fit. I would love to invest in them. Where are they from?

  • NaDell April 23, 2011, 8:19 am

That looks like a fun place to craft! I love it.

I was wondering the same thing as Marilyn – where did you get your big cabinet with all those bins?

I have a craft room, but this is SO much better because of all the space! I also would love to know more about that cabinet & bins.

I’m trying to carve out a space in our ‘hoarder’s-on-steroids-basement’ right now to make a space for me. Your space here is an inspiration.

FYI ended up linking to you on my blog, because you have some great ideas here. Thanks for sharing!

That is some kind of awesome craft room! I’m jealous!

Unfinished or not, it looks like a great space to me!

I love your craft room! I’m working on mine too – can’t wait until it’s done. So nice to have everything right where you want it. Great job!

I LOVE it! I’m in the process of trying to put something together too. So many projects, such little time. Don’t you love have everything in one place!

You’re so lucky you have such a great space for your room!! I’ve decided that I need a craft room and am trying to decide what room I’ll have to eliminate. The formal living room is the front-runner since it’s never used, but it looks pretty when you come in the house. 🙂 Great job with yours!

Looks pretty amazing for being an unfinished basement!

Would love for you to share at Calling All Crafters!

I just love this — it’s so bright and cheery and CLEAN! I’d say you’ve created quite a beautiful and functional space there! Love the ribbon storage!

I am right with you. I too am organizing my craft supplies using shelving, containers and boxes I already have. I am hoping to fit my frequently used supplies in a corner of my basement so that I can find what I need when I need it.

Thanks so much for linking up!! The ribbon in the box is genius! And I am super jealous of the big table in the middle of the room 🙂

Your craft room is so bright and cheery, I’d never guess it was in the basement. I’m carving out my own area on the upstairs landing. Cleaning, tossing, organizing. I’m so jealous of your large worktable!

I, too, am waiting on a craft room space in my home. Meanwhile, I’m collecting supplies, containers, shelving… I think your space is lovely and would never have guessed it was in the basement.
