Placemat Pillow for Amanda

Here’s a reminder of the inspiration for Amanda’s room.

I found this placemat at Target and knew it would make a perfect pillow for her room. The lighting is bad in this picture. The true color of the pillow is shown in the last 2 pictures of this post.

I love a project I can do in bed while watching TV (that makes me sound really lazy). Rip open a section of the seam. I always open a section of what will be the bottom of the pillow. On this one it doesn’t matter.

The opening just needs to be big enough to get your hand in.

Then start stuffing. I always make it extra full because it tends to flatten a little over time.

Once the pillow is as full as you want, sew closed by hand, following the seam that was ripped open.

Ta-Da! Now you have a very pretty embroidered pillow.

Here’s a close up of the detail. This picture is more true to the color of the pillow. And Amanda loves it!

I’ve been seeing people’s lovely placemat pillows cropping up all over the ‘net for the past few weeks but I think yours are my favorite. I tried to find some cute pillowcases for our sofa but wound up giving up and buying fabric instead. Which is why the project’s only half done since it requires a lot more time than this. Great job!

I love your pillow. I’ve made a number of these this last year and loved every one. They are so easy to make!

Love it! I have always wanted to try this but never find the right kind of placemat! Or if I do, it’s never pretty. Great job! Thanks for sharing this in the DIY Project Parade too – I just love your creativity!:)
