Peek Through Last Week (February 25-March 3)

Adam wanted us to watch a few music videos on YouTube before we started Amazing Race. Maddux loved them. He was dancing before he decided to climb on the love seat and sit by Zach. Then he was keeping rhythm on his leg with one hand and sucking his thumb on the other. Yes, that is Maddux’s church pants on Zach’s head!

Ammon and Zach went to Syracuse Fun Center with friends on Monday. They ate lunch then jumped on the tramps for 3 hours. They had such a great time and my friend was so sweet to take them. Ammon was wiped out by 5:00. I know he’s eight now but he will always be my baby.

Time for my blood tests again. I had my T3,T4, TSH and TPO tested for my hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s  . The 3 tubes drawn this time was much better than the 12 last time.

I finally talked Doug into giving someone a call to come finish the mudding and taping on my craft room. He lives in our old neighborhood and does a great job. Yay, my craft room is moving along again.

The boys are off track and we were supposed to go to Salt Lake today, but with the snow I decided not to go. The boys were a little bummed but I told them we’d go this week. I let them pick a few games and we played for a couple hours. My kids always win at games.

I got this lovely card from my best friend. It totally made my whole week. I’m so blessed to have such amazing friends. They’ve been a strong support (along with my hubby and family) for me through these really rough times. They make the days so much brighter. I love the little charm too. It’s going to be so cute to add to a necklace or bracelet.

I got a call to be on a local morning show. I’m so excited and have been working on my ideas for the segment. It’s Friday. I’ll give you more information (and hopefully a clip) once it’s taped. I hope I don’t faint!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and you have an awesome week!

Hey Leanne! I just wanted to comment on the hypothyroid issue. I don’t know what is going on with you but I have recently gone through this ordeal and hope maybe my experience will help. It’s a novel, but I’ll try to give a quick recap.
2 months ago I was tested twice for hypothyroid. The TSH came back in range both times. I still didn’t believe it though. My family doctor and by endocrinologist both refused to give me the exact blood work I wanted – Reverse T3, Free T3, Free T4, and TSH. They would only test TSH.

I found a place online where I had my blood work done ($249). You order it online, print out the form, then take it to the nearest lab to draw your blood. It took a week to get the results. All were in range, but my Free T3 was at the bottom of the range and my Reverse T3 was at the top.

There’s a big debate in the medical community about all this thyroid stuff, and most doctors don’t want to even hear your complaints or symptoms. If your TSH is in range, then you are fine.

However, I didn’t agree, so I found a Women’s Health doctor (out of network and out of pocket – $350) who focuses on holistic medicine. She agreed that my Reverse T3 and Free T3 ratio was not normal, even though they were both “in range”.

I have a condition that doctors refuse to recognize called Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome. Basically, I have too much Reverse T3, and not enough T3, causing all the exact same symptoms as hypothyroid. The main symptoms are a body temperature below normal (98.6 degrees F). Mine is usually around 96.8 degrees F. In addition to the low temperature, you will have many if not all the same symptoms of hypothyroidism.

This type of medicine is somewhat “out there” and your general doctor and even your endocrinologist don’t treat for this. You have to find a doctor who is willing to treat out of the box.

Anyway, a week ago I started on a dose of T3 (as opposed to taking Synthroid which is T4 only). I already am feeling like a new person. I can tell it’s working and even my body temperature is rising and getting closer to normal.

Basically, I don’t have hypothyroidism, but I have a Syndrome that is related to the thyroid, just not caused directly by a faulty thyroid. My thyroid is normal and produces T4 as it should. But for whatever reason, my body converts that T4 into too much Reverse T3 and not enough T3.

If you think your have a thyroid issue but can’t get any doctor to give you any help at all, I highly recommend starting with this website – Stop The Thyroid Madness. It is chock full of resources and information.

Good luck finding out why you’ve been feeling so bad the past year or so! I’m rooting for you and hope you can find help soon.

My biggest advice? If you think there is something wrong, don’t let your doctor tell you everything is fine. You have to be your own advocate! I would have never gotten the medication I needed if I hadn’t been persistent and insisted that I find a doctor who would listen to me and would help find out what was wrong instead of just telling it it was all in my head. I am on the path to recovery after a minimum of 8 years of struggling with health issues and I am so grateful!
