Painting my entry door has been on my mind a lot lately. But what color?

Here are some painted doors that have caught my eye:

I like this, but not sure about hubby liking it.

Maybe a little too bold for me, but I think it looks so pretty with the red and purple flowers.

Red has always been my go-to color so I’m trying to step away from using it. But I love it.

Black is always a good choice and it would look great at Halloween.

I love green, but maybe a little lighter shade. This one’s a little too bold.

Orange is one of my least favorite colors, but it’s growing on me. I think it would look really great with my house.

Um, probably not. Hubby would never go for this.

I love blue too, but probably not this shade. Maybe the color of the pots.

So, here is my front door now to give you some perspective. Yep, it just blends into the house and it’s basically in the corner, so I need it to stand out.

What color would you pick?

I’ve been putting off painting my door because I can’t decide on the color. I saw a door painted eggplant the other day and liked that. I’ve been considering very dark brown or grey. I guess the thing to do is just pick something. Huh?

I think Black or a Dark shade of Red would look really nice. I am wanting to paint my door too, but my husband said no. Hmmm…. I don’t think I like that word. ;) Good luck!

Leanne- I love the color of the yellow door, but agree it’s probably too much. I think something bright would look fantastic on your house- red is an easy choice, so if you’re looking for something different- I think the blue you mentioned would look fantastic.

My front door is bright purple and my husband hates it but the deal was I got to pick the first color and it would stay that color until it
a. started chipping off
b. 5 years which ever came first.
My husband then bought me the cheapest paint ever… guess what?
My five years is up this October and it still looks great. Mwahahaha.
He’s up to pick the color this fall but I get to pick the paint.

I think the green would look good. Red is always a great choice though too. I think that the blue would blend in to much with the color of your house. I do like that yellow too but I would be scared of it since it seems so bold.

Fun post topic! Funny actually, because as I scrolled down I thought that I liked the last door best…then I read that it was your current door. ;)

I hate to sound boring, but I think white would look great. It would highlight the nice stonework around the door and the glass in the door.

I like all the doors in those pics. Ours is currently a really yucky shade of blue-grey … it helps to highlight the beautiful mustard yellow stucco the previous owners were very fond of … needless to say, I’m looking forward to painting :))

I can’t wait to see what you pick …

Orange or yellow.
I’m a blue person, but this huge of expanse of gray screams for some bright color. Just paint! You can always paint it again if you don’t like it.

I vote for blue, white or black. Not much help I know… he he he
It will look great either way!

I think with your gray stucco you should do the blue in the picture right above it. It would look awesome with your stucco and rock! White would also look good. I don’t think that yellow or orange would look good with your gray stucco. I think you should do bold but stay with a darker color.

I like this post, I need to paint my door too. Once I get around to it I think I’m going to copy your idea and ask the readers. :)

Turquoise would look fantastic with that gray! Then you could do some potted flowers in yellow and white with a coiro welcome mat. Awesome. Sky blue or slate blue won’t show up from the street, and your house exterior doesn’t look like a peacock blue would work.

That first watermelon red would be pretty, as would a yellow-based green.

I painted our front door blue – a shade the DH calls “smurftastic.” It looks awesome on our brick house.

I love this! I think no matter which you choose it’ll look great! I recently took he plunge and painted my front door turquoise! I LOVE it! {and it’s so easy to tell people which house on the block is ours!} ha!

I love the stonework by your front door. I think a royal or slate blue shade would really make the stone pop! Good Luck with what ever you choose. Can’t wait to see photos! btw. your blog is by far my favorite .

Don’t do a black door if it gets any manner of direct sun! We had an east-facing black door and it MELTED. Yes, melted. But all the bugs stuck in the streams of melted glue were are GREAT addition to our Halloween decor.

Paula March 15, 2011 at 8:13 pm

I would not normally say this as my 1st choice, but after seeing your stone work & stucco: I think the black would look awesome – although I agree with the previous poster that mentioned the direct sunlight issue.

One color I’d like to throw out there that is not mentioned that might work – chocolate brown. I’ve seen so many friends combine shades of gray with natural wood tones & it really looks nice – think of the color of rocks & different mosaic tile patterns – it’s a natural combination.

i’d like the door frame painted off-white (or white). Then for the door my fave is the coral/watermelon. Next choice, the blue from those pots.

A deep rich Cranberry, Burgandy, or Plum/Eggplant (not too purple) Have fun!
