Button Bling for My Fingers

March 30th, 2010

The last time I saw my sister-in-law she had on the cutest ring. She always has cute rings, but I asked her about this one because it really caught my eye. It was a button! I thought to myself, “hey, I have buttons, I bet I can make some really fun rings!” So last night I got out some interesting buttons, old earrings and other things I had in my craft room, to make some cute rings for myself. The rings cost $3.99 at Michael’s but I used my 40% off coupon and got the package of 8 for $2.39.

Jewelry 002

This flower either came off a ring or a necklace. I can’t remember. The center was missing so I found a glittery brad and stuck it in the middle.

Jewelry 003

This is a vintage earring I found in that fun shop I always talk about in Cedar City. I just pulled the clip part off of the earring.

Jewelry 004

And here’s an extra button from a jacket I still have. I hope I don’t need that button now. It’s just plastic, so I was able to cut the shank off with scissors.

Jewelry 006

I used E6000 glue. It’s strong stuff, but you need to let it set for a whole day before you try to wear the ring. It says it takes 72 hours before it’s at maximum strength.

Jewelry 007

This is my favorite. It was the earring in it’s former life. Please excuse my 48 year old hands, the younger hands I would rather have used were at school when I took these pictures.

Jewelry 008

Isn’t it so pretty? It really sparkles too.

Jewelry 001

I’m giving this one to Emilee. I believe it was a ring in it’s former life. I found out it was a mood ring, because as I was gluing it on, it kept changing colors. What does dark blue mean?

Jewelry 010

This one is the button from my jacket. Amanda wanted it as soon as she saw it. I told her she could have it as long as I could borrow it from time to time.

Jewelry 009

This ring is made from a vintage button.

Jewelry 011

And this one from another button.

Jewelry 012

This is another one of my favorites.

Jewelry 013

See how well it goes with these earrings I picked up at a thrift store. I love them! The earrings say “made in Germany” and they’re the screw on type.

Jewelry 015

Here’s all the rings I made last night. I think they turned out pretty great, especially for only .30 cents each ring. Do you have any buttons lying around that might make beautiful rings?

I love these! I’ve admired these big rings on other people’s fingers, but never wanted to spend the money to buy any for myself. I have a bunch of old buttons, though, and I think I could spring for 30 cents apiece! Thanks for sharing this great idea.

LOVE this idea!!!! I have to admit, though, that I have thrown away some great potential rings in the past. NOW, I won’t!
