Ultimate Thrifty Shopping
My best friend takes me on the best shopping experiences. We have the best time shopping together, but this is the ultimate in thrifty shopping. She works for a company that has this huge sale a few times a year to get rid of excess items and/or displays. This sale mostly had items relating to school supplies, Halloween, Christmas, Winter and Fall. In the late Summer there’s Easter, Spring, Summer, 4th of July and gardening items.
It’s quite the experience. You stand in line. They open the doors at the designated time and you GO (run, walk fast, push, shove) Just kidding, every one’s really nice, but you do have to move quickly. You grab a box (the bigger the better) or more boxes than one if you can manage that and start shopping. There’s really no time to decide if you want something. If you think you want it just put it in your box. There’s no waiting or coming back later. It. Will. Be. Gone. There are price tags on items, but it doesn’t mean anything at this sale. Don’t you wish all sales were like that?
When you’re finished shopping and I use the word loosely, (I usually have a lot more planning and intention to my shopping), you stand in line to pay. This is the kicker. Guess how you pay? You’ll never guess. A guy lifts up your box for weight and says $20 or $25 or $30. Crazy, huh? Crazy good, especially if you have a lot of light things in your box.
Are you ready to see what I fought for, grabbed, hid at the bottom of the box, bought?
10 shirts: 2 for Hubby, 2 “got candy?” for grand babies, 3 “naughty or nice” for grand babies and 3 “Is it too late to be Good?” for grandsons.

Christmas: wreath with poms, candle, nutcracker, 6 red ball ornaments, 6 large ornaments and 11 wood ornaments.

Baking: 3 baking flavoring oils, meat thermometer and 4 icings.

Party products: 2 packs of tumblers, doilies, 2 packs of red napkins, 3 packs of white napkins, 4 packs cupcake liners and 10 dessert cups.

Halloween: window clings, “enter if you dare” vinyl, 2 trick or treat bags, 2 packs of luminaries, string of bat lights, 2 glitter pumpkins, 1 glitter skull, 6 votives, pack of spider rings, 4 Halloween flashlights, 2 packs of paper plates, 2 blacklight lightbulbs and orange cello.

Toys: Fun kits for Zachary.

Here’s the break down. I bought 89 items (or packages of items) for $25. That’s just .28 cents each item or package. I haven’t figured out how much I saved, but I know I got an awesome deal. What do you think?
And BTW, today is Hubby’s 50th Birthday! He’s not even sad! He says he’s embracing it. That’s one of the things I love about him. Here’s a few more:
He’s always positive. Really. Always. (Opposites do attract)
He loves an adventure (small or large).
He likes to surprise me (like our trip to Hawaii in May).
If he wants something he finds a way to make it happen, even if it takes a while (more on that in a later post).
He’s a wonderful provider (we’ve had our ups and downs financially, but he always works hard).
He gets excited about projects (all kinds).
He’s very handy (that saves us a ton of money).
He’s got a huge heart (he would help anyone).
He loves God, me, his kids and grand kids (and shows it everyday).
He treats me like a queen (even when I don’t deserve it).

Happy Birthday Honey! I Love You!
Have a beautiful weekend!

Happy Birthday to your hubby, Leanne! Men just go with the flow, don’t they? I guess it balances out how women feel turning 50. I still have a few years to go, but I know I’ll be in disbelief {I was just 25 like last year!}.
What great stuff you got! Love the selection and I so wish they had something like that here that I could go to. With a grandchild due this Summer it would be so fun to get a few things for the baby shower and the baby. So, yeah, I think you got a great deal!
Great finds Leanne! Happy Birthday to Doug! He is an awesome guy and you totally deserve him!
Wow you lucky girl, you did great on that shopping trip! Happy birthday to your hubby too. I myself just turned 40…and I feel like a kid. I don’t mind age at all. Especially when people think I am sisters with my 22 year old daughter! And THAT won’t last forever… so I am going to enjoy it.
What a haul!! Great Bargains!
I am so incredibly jealous!!!! When I get a good deal like that, I’m on a shopping high for days.
Whoa, you got a ton of stuff for so cheap! I wish I could motivate myself to buy off season stuff, I always regret it when the holidays pop up.
What a score–great stuff for cheap!!!
You definitely scored girl!!!
