A Fireplace Mantel for Winter

January 4th, 2010

I can’t help myself. I love to decorate for the seasons. I find myself wanting mostly white for Winter and the month of January. I think it helps brighten my mood and I don’t focus so much on the dreary weather outside. Luckily I just happen to have a few snowmen, snowflakes and white and silver accessories laying around. Okay, they’re not actually laying around, they’re really in totes marked Winter. I haven’t put them all out yet , but I thought I’d start with showing you my fireplace mantel. Ahhh, so white and cheery.

I bought these snowflake tea light holders for 80% off at Hobby Lobby. Which means I spent a whopping $1.80 for each one. They look kind of silver in the picture but they’re really brown.

SS859944

I think snowflakes should be white not brown, so I painted them heirloom white. I like them much better and they match the sleigh now.

SS859946

I’ve had the sleigh for years and love it. All the faux mercury glass was at Hobby Lobby for 80% off also. They were such a deal that I couldn’t pass them up, plus they’re just beautiful.

SS859941

I’ve had the wreath for years. Chunks of glitter are starting to fall off of it because it’s so old but I love how it looks over the fireplace. Don’t worry, the picture of Christ is still in the living room, I just moved him to a different wall.

Remember, these letter cards I bought at Joann’s and used to spell out Give Thanks? They’re back, spelling Winter now.  I love that I can keep reusing them. Just slide the cards between the binding tape and use clothespins to hold them in place.

Ta-Da! That’s the mantel. There’s more Winter decor coming tomorrow.

And stay tuned for an awesome giveaway guaranteed to keep you warm.

A very pretty winter mantle. I love those snowflakes and Hobby Lobby is my favorite store on earth. I could get lost in there for hours. LOL.

Fabulous! I love the garland, and those metal snowflake tea light holders are really cool, especially with a coat of my favorite color! Thanks for linking up your great ideas Leanne.

It’s fun how you’re not afraid to alter something you just bought. I’ve painted frames lots of colors, but objects are a fun idea. The snowflakes look great! I am excited about your class tonight!

It looks just beautiful!! Love those snowflake tealights, and I agree with you, they look much better white. :)

You are so right, snowflakes should be white (or heirloom white in you case). Those turned out beautiful. So wish we had a Hobby Lobby in our neck of the woods, so jealous.

Your mantel looks great, I like the soothing white – it’s clean and fresh and still wintery. I am looking forward to redecorating for winter once we finally finish getting everything Christmasy out of the house. I agree that it feels good to start the new year with a fresh new look!
Stop by and say hello sometime!
