Emilee’s Mirror
Paint Emilee’s new mirror. Number 3 on my 10 Tasks in 10 Days Challenge. I bought the mirror at Tai Pan’s 75% off sale last week and knew it was going in Emilee’s room.
But the color had to be changed to fit in, so I papered and taped off the mirror area.
Then primed it.
Next I painted it a yellow I’m still not sure about. Umm, would you say that was bright? Emilee wasn’t sure about it either, until Amanda said she loved it. Apparently all it takes is a big sister saying she loves it.
It looked pretty good once it was in her room. It’s not going to stay on the dresser though. Her room is a work in progress.
Here’s the details on the mirror. Time will tell if it stays this yellow. I think it’s already starting to grow on me.
One down, nine to go.

While I was at Ross the other day I picked up this garbage can for $4. Don’t you just love the blue color? Uhmmm, no! Maybe in another room, but not my bathroom.

First, I primed it because it was so dark and I didn’t want to use all my heirloom white paint trying to cover up the blue. I’ll be honest with you, I only use primer about 50% of the time.

Then I painted it heirloom white and liked how it looked, but I wanted to make the center design pop a little more.

So, then I made a big mistake. UGH! Ugly. I didn’t even have to finish and I could tell you this was a big disaster. I very strongly hate dislike it. This was all I could wipe off.

So, I used more heirloom white and painted over it again. Aaah, much better and I think the detail pops enough. And I don’t want to have to paint it again.

I love spray paint and being able to cover up my mistakes!

I bought this little step stool at Wal-Mart about 8 years ago. I think they still sell the same one.

It’s been used to reach many things, but my sons probably use it the most to wash their hands in the kitchen. I’d been wanting to do something to make it a little more appealing, but never got around to doing it. Then I saw Andy’s blog header on Poppies at Play and knew what to do. I considered different paint colors, but I kept coming back to black. I love black, but it would also go best in my kitchen.
It felt so good to be able to paint outside today. It got to 54 degrees, but there’s a chance of snow tomorrow. Boo! I’ve been painting in the basement through Winter and sometimes the smell comes upstairs, plus I need to keep the rest of my brain cells. First I sanded it, to rough it up a little and get some of the finish off. Then I wiped it down with a wet cloth to get all the dust off before painting. I know, I need to paint the deck. It’s on my ever growing list.

I used Valspar spray paint and painted the underside first. It dried so quickly. Yay, for painting outside. Then I painted the top and let it dry while I picked the kids up from school and ran a few errands.

I used my Cricut to cut a word and shape out of vinyl. I decided on “explore” for the boys and a dragonfly for Spring. I was going to use a bird, but then I really would have been coping Andy. I’m really loving how it looks now.

Ammon wanted to try it out.

Then Zach had to take it for a test drive.

I still need to put a clear coat on it before I let the boys use it too much. It was so simple but really does look completely different and matches my kitchen so much better now. Ahhhh, black spray paint!
