Emilee’s Mirror
Paint Emilee’s new mirror. Number 3 on my 10 Tasks in 10 Days Challenge. I bought the mirror at Tai Pan’s 75% off sale last week and knew it was going in Emilee’s room.
But the color had to be changed to fit in, so I papered and taped off the mirror area.
Then primed it.
Next I painted it a yellow I’m still not sure about. Umm, would you say that was bright? Emilee wasn’t sure about it either, until Amanda said she loved it. Apparently all it takes is a big sister saying she loves it.
It looked pretty good once it was in her room. It’s not going to stay on the dresser though. Her room is a work in progress.
Here’s the details on the mirror. Time will tell if it stays this yellow. I think it’s already starting to grow on me.
One down, nine to go.

Transformation Thursday at The Shabby Chic Cottage
Filed under Bedroom, Decorating, Painted Furniture, Refurbished | Comments (14)Lamp Transformations
It’s the 1st Anniversary of Transformation Thursday at The Shabby Chic Cottage. Gina has asked up to link up our favorite transformation. Really, mine is any thing to do with spray paint, so here’s the lamps that were transformed.
You know I have a love for spray paint. Well, there’s good reason for that. The transformation can be incredible. Isn’t it wonderful what a little color can do to an ordinary item? I found all these lamps at the D.I. and Savers. These were $2 each at Savers.
I then found these lamp shades at Ross for only $2.99 each. They have a silver rim around the top and bottom.

These lamps were going to be perfect for our bedroom, once they were painted black. I had thought I would cover the shades, but once I put them on the lamps I knew they were perfect just the way they were. This is Hubby’s table. See that glass ball on the candle stick? It was a birthday gift from our son, Chris.

Here’s a close-up. The game is to get the golf ball on top of the tee. It’s harder than it sounds.

Okay, back to the lamps. Here’s my table. Don’t they look great? I love them black. The total cost for both lamps is $10.

I bought this lamp at the D.I. for $2. It’s the same as the ones I painted black.

This time I painted it blue for the boys room. I already had the lamp shade in the basement and I’m not sure how much it cost when I bought it. I’m still thinking of what to do with the shade. I love this blue.

This last one was bought at the D.I. for $3. It’s kind of a weird yellow creamy color, but I love the detail on it.
It will be going in Emilee’s room (once I get the side table painted it’s going on). She loves this green and wants her desk painted the same color. This lamp shade was also in the basement and I’ll be doing something to it later. Isn’t it pretty?
I love the detail on the lamp. It’s going to look amazing in her room.

So what do you think? Doesn’t a new color make such a huge difference? Isn’t it amazing you can transform something plain and inexpensive into something you exactly want with just a little paint? Yep, I love spray paint.

I can’t help myself. I love to decorate for the seasons. I find myself wanting mostly white for Winter and the month of January. I think it helps brighten my mood and I don’t focus so much on the dreary weather outside. Luckily I just happen to have a few snowmen, snowflakes and white and silver accessories laying around. Okay, they’re not actually laying around, they’re really in totes marked Winter. I haven’t put them all out yet , but I thought I’d start with showing you my fireplace mantel. Ahhh, so white and cheery.

I bought these snowflake tea light holders for 80% off at Hobby Lobby. Which means I spent a whopping $1.80 for each one. They look kind of silver in the picture but they’re really brown.

I think snowflakes should be white not brown, so I painted them heirloom white. I like them much better and they match the sleigh now.

I’ve had the sleigh for years and love it. All the faux mercury glass was at Hobby Lobby for 80% off also. They were such a deal that I couldn’t pass them up, plus they’re just beautiful.

I’ve had the wreath for years. Chunks of glitter are starting to fall off of it because it’s so old but I love how it looks over the fireplace. Don’t worry, the picture of Christ is still in the living room, I just moved him to a different wall.

Remember, these letter cards I bought at Joann’s and used to spell out Give Thanks? They’re back, spelling Winter now. I love that I can keep reusing them. Just slide the cards between the binding tape and use clothespins to hold them in place.

Ta-Da! That’s the mantel. There’s more Winter decor coming tomorrow.
And stay tuned for an awesome giveaway guaranteed to keep you warm.

This was first posted in October if you can’t tell from the decal on the mirror. I have this mirror that has been hanging in my living room for over a year. Nice mirror, but not really my color (don’t mind the big decal, it’s decorated for halloween and I was to lazy to take it off for the picture) plus since I painted that wall it just doesn’t work.

Can you guess what color I painted it? Oh, you know me so well. That’s right, glossy black! During the painting process I realized something, it’s great to cover it with paper, but don’t forget to tape it down too. When you start spraying, the spray can lift the paper up. Luckily none of the glass was painted, but I was sweating there for a minute.

And here it is all painted and hanging back on the wall. Ahhhhhh, so much better. Why didn’t I do this over a year ago?

Filed under Refurbished | Comments (2)Ugly Dining Chair to Gorgeous Desk Chair
I bought this chair for $5 at a local thrift store. Scary, huh! What was I thinking? The wood and cane were still in good shape, but the color was sad and the cushion didn’t smell very good. Okay, it stunk! Here it is (aren’t those legs gorgeous?):

The first think I did was take the cushion off and throw it away. Before I threw it away though, I measured it to cut the new one the correct size. I found the perfect green material, wrapped it around the new cushion and stapled it to the bottom of the seat. Then I went through my stash of spray paint and of course went straight to the glossy black paint. I love glossy black paint. I painted the chair, reattached the seat and here’s the end result:

Look at those beautiful legs. I love my new chair. It sits in my bedroom at my desk. Emilee calls it my princess chair. She wants me to make her one next, but she wants hers in white.

Do you remember this chair I bought from a thrift store for $5? Worn, dated and it didn’t smell very good either, but I loved the shape of it.

Here it is now! Ahhh! Glossy black spray paint. I love it! Emilee calls it my princess chair. It’s so much more comfortable now to work at my desk. Do you know how hard it was to find the right color of green material?

Here’s another one. Do you remember this ….and this? I bought them at Hobby Lobby for next to nothing at 80% off.

Ta-da! Well, here it is now. Do I love this more or the chair more? Both the same , of course.

Doesn’t that look great over mine and hubby’s bed?
Here’s a picture of the pillows I made too. They’re reversible so I can change them up whenever I want. Our room was black and white, which I love, but I thought a little color was needed. So along came this awesome green with a tiny hint of yellow. I think it’s actually avocado.

Here’s some more green for my room.

This ribbon is the same color green. It just doesn’t look like it in the picture.

There’s still a lot of work to do in the room, but I like the touches of green. It feels more welcoming to me. Wow, I really need to paint those walls.
