Poppies at Play is having a Parade of Homes Linky Party. Have you enjoyed touring the Parade of Homes Party she’s been having all week? Now it’s your turn to link your favorite room to the party.
My rooms are ever changing. I love my living room because we probably spend the most time in there. The only thing I don’t like about it is the TV. We don’t have our basement (family room) finished yet so the TV has to stay here, at least for a while. I just moved the furniture around about a week ago. This is basically the room now. I moved the love seat next to the fireplace, in front of the window. The leather love seat stayed where it was, as a divider from the dining area. The ottoman opens to hold all the Rock Band pieces.
The chairs were moved to the other side of the carpeted area, in front of the wood floor. The chair on the left came from Ross and the one on the right was from Target. The wall behind stayed the same.
I moved the table over and changed the decor on top. The vase came out of storage and the covered dessert stand came from the kitchen. The green apples and pears came out of storage too. The table was Hubby’s grandparents.
This is the fireplace and mantel right now. I probably change it every 2 to 3 weeks. I have a lot of random accessories in storage that I like to rotate in and out and from room to room.
This table came from Ben Franklin when the one by us was closing down. Because it was part of a display, I got it for $8. It was already painted this gray color. The pillows in the basket are for the kids to use when they lay on the floor to watch TV.
I love my clock wall. I did this 6 years ago when we first moved here. I like using clocks as art. It’s inexpensive, plus I just have a thing for clocks. I have an issue though. I wanted these red walls so bad. I picked just the right color of red and then painted them about 1 1/2 years ago. I loved them for about 1 year, now not so much. I still like the red, but I really like the brown on this next wall, so I might be painting again soon.
This is the wall behind the chairs and the color I was thinking on painting the rest of the room (or maybe a shade lighter).
Our living room pretty much reflects the rest of our house. Furniture that has been bought over time, things that have meaning to us and things we love are all in this room and the rest of our home.
Thanks for visiting and please come back again!

A lot of you already know how to make these, but this is for those of you who don’t. I made these for a wedding reception this Friday. Cute colors, huh?! So Bright and Springy!

This is the tissue paper Ashlie brought over for me to use. I made them 3 different sizes, but you construct them all the same way. Just cut more paper off the ends if you’d like them to be smaller.

Start with 10-12 sheets of paper. I put some of the polka dot blue paper in with the solid blue (2 solid, 1 dot, 2 solid, 1 dot, 2 solid, 1 dot, 1 solid). Stack the sheets on top of each other and start folding accordion style. Folds should be about 1 1/2″ wide. If you’re making smaller poms make the fold width about 1″ wide.

Once you’re done, fold the paper in half just to find the center of the paper.

Cut a piece of wire 6″-8″ long. Put the wire in the center of the paper and twist the ends together to keep the wire in place. This will be in the center of the pom.

Make a loop with the ends of the wire. Put ribbon, string or fishing line through the loop, when you’re finished making the pom, to hang it by.

Draw an arch or semi-circle at each end of the paper to form the petals.

Use sharp scissors and cut through all the layers of the tissue paper.

Fan the paper out like this

Then start pulling the papers up (towards the center) to form the pom, one sheet at a time. You need to be careful so you don’t tear the paper. Be gentle at first, you can make adjustments later. This picture is half a pom.

Fluff and make adjustments to the poms till they look the way you like. The pink one is all solid sheets and the green one is 7 solids and 3 stripes.

So fun! I want to make these for every party now.

It looks like Spring on my table until the Bride comes to pick them up. I think she’s putting these on or above the signing table. Such happy colors! Best Wishes Ashlie and Chad!

Yep, we had a Super Bowl Party. Just family, but it was a lot of fun. Mostly it’s a good excuse to eat a lot of junk food and drink soda. We don’t usually have soda in the house unless we’re having a party. To say the least the kids were really excited. And since I was born and raised most of my youth in Indiana you could just guess who I had the family rooting for.

The game started out in our favor and we were cheering loudly.

Then it took a turn for the worse.

But we still had high hopes.

And then our hopes were shattered.

But we still had lots of yummy food and all the soda you could drink. And believe me, they did.

Little Smokies anyone?

How about some barbecue meatballs?

These are addicting (York bites) Yum!

Hubby’s brother and sister-in-law stopped by for a while too. They came by to check out a project hubby is starting to work on. He’s going to be documenting his progress which he says will take about 6 months. I say at least a year. After being married to the man for almost 30 years I have learned to at least double all his estimations on time.
Are we saddened by the outcome of the game? Yes, but we’re stuffed to our eyeballs with yummy junk food. So, we all went to bed pretty happy.

Well, the Spy Party was a huge success. All the kids had a great time and Zach said it was the best party ever. It’s the next day and they’ve been talking about it all morning. Emilee had a great time too and Ammon wants a Spy Party now for his birthday.
The party started with the boys coming over to the table a getting the supplies they would need for the mission. Since they were all arriving at different times, some boys were putting on their gear while others were still arriving and bringing their scooters and blades to the door. Spy gear: compasses, sunglasses, beanies, listening devices and water bottles. And they were all asked to wear black, which was a great idea because it was way easier to find them at the Skating Rink when it got crowded.

Since some of the guests still hadn’t arrived so we decided to open presents first. A huge bag of candy. A perfect gift for a 10 year old boy.

We had black balloons blown up and a message was rolled up and placed in one of the balloons. The balloons were bombs.

The Spys ready for their Mission.

After all the boys arrived. It was time to make the bombs explode to find the message about their mission. The boys got busy popping all the balloons and it got pretty wild. The clue was found and it read something like: The Party Loot Bags have been stolen. If you choose to accept this mission and recover the stolen items you will need to collect all your important gear, alternate transportation (scooters or blades) and proceed to the transportation waiting for you in the garage. I didn’t take a picture of the clue.

It took them a while to find the clue in all the popped balloon pieces.

Once at the Skate Rink, we went to the bounce area. There they had to find Emilee and decipher the clue using the cipher card that came in their party invitation. Emilee had an extra cipher card in case the boys forgot theirs. It took them a while to find her.

Still looking.

Deciphering the code.

Still working on it.

Which leads them to the place where Doug is hiding with the next clue.

They have to read the hidden message in the mirror to discover the next clue that will lead them to Amanda.
Still hunting.

Yay, they found her and the next clue. Sorry, but I was running around trying to get all these pictures and missed some. She gave them play money, on the back was written the next message that said: The stolen items have been located near the large oval. Which was the skating rink. It took them a while to figure that out.

They couldn’t find the large oval.

Once they found the large oval, they had to find the stolen loot. Look at Zach rechecking the clue on the money.

They found Doug and thought maybe he had the bags. They were right! The bags had glow in the dark laynards to wear for skating, glow in the dark straws, exploding rock candy, lots of candy and more spy gear.

Then it was time for pizza, cupcakes and donut bombs.

Hungry boys.

And thirsty.

Mmmmmm! Yum!

More bouncing.

Flipping.

Sock races.

Riding scooters.

Then it was time to go.

It was a fun party. The helpers even had a fun time. Happy 10th Birthday Zach! I hope you had an amazing time at your party with your fun friends!
Thanks for visiting and have a beautiful weekend.

Spy Birthday Party Invitations
Zachary loves anything and everything to do with Spys. I think he now has almost all the Spy Gear toys available and he also has 2 Spy/Secret Agent board games. He watches Spy movies and makes up Spy games. So when I visited Lisa over at Moore Minutes and saw her awesome Secret Agent party I knew I had to copy some of her great ideas. By the way, she has the best party ideas ever. I want to be her close friend, so I can be invited to one of her awesome parties.
Anyway, here’s the party invitation. I made it in Word and printed it out on blank computer paper. I found the CIA logo in ClipArt:

Here’s the cipher card that’s in the invitation. It will also be used at the party:

And here’s the outside of the invitation:

I found the Top Secret in ClipArt and the bullet holes are from a party store:

Zachary thinks the invitations are so cool and he’s so excited for his Spy party. I’ll have the details of the party later this week. Hopefully he’ll get over the stomach flu before his party. He stayed home from school today.

Melissa at 320 Sycamore is having a Favorite Things Party. You know, like Oprah, only more affordable. These are things I have and love. And if I had more money I would send them to my best friends. You all are included, of course.
Bath and Body Works Body Butter- Cucumber Melon is one of my favorite scents. I especially love using it this time of year, when my skin is so dry and itchy from the weather.

Calvin Klein Straight Flare Jeans- I love these jeans that actually fit my body. Okay, I don’t look as good as she does, but I do look pretty good.

Slatkin & Co. Room Sprays- I love any scent with cinnamon in it. Just two sprays and the whole room smells great. Perfect for those times when someone drops by unexpected and you’re not sure if your house still smells like hard boiled eggs.

Scentsy Bars- are you getting the idea I love things that smell good? Probably cinnamon, pomegranate orange, winter wonderland and havana cabana are my favorites.

100% Silk Thai Silk Pillows from Target- I just love the way they feel and their shape is great. They come in tons of different colors and designs.

Personalized Sticky Notes- I love sticky notes and use them everyday, so why not personalize them. I like black and white the best, but right now mine are orange.
Suitcases in great colors for holding all my girls special things. Great for hair accessories, barbie clothes, small trinkets, etc.
Nicholas Sparks Books- any of them. I love his writing.
Set of 3 Round Mirrors- I love things for the walls, especially mirrors. The look of these three all together are perfect. I have them in my bedroom.

SagHarbor Hand Bag- I love this bag. It’s very roomy and great looking plus inexpensive. I’ll be using it all winter.
Well, there’s my favorite things list. Are any of these your favorites too? Go over to Melissa’s and see other favorite lists. Maybe you’ll get some good ideas for Christmas presents for yourself and others.

Saturday was my niece, Nikki’s, baby shower. She’s due in 2 weeks and is so cute. It was such a fun shower to decorate for, especially because Whitney, Amanda and Emilee were all able to help. Here’s some of the fun decorations we made. She was able to keep them all and hopefully use them in the baby’s room.
I love the look of clothes on a line, so we hung our presents for the baby on the clothes line. I was going to make more skirts, but ran out of time. Whitney made the cutest ever little tutu’s. Oh, sooooo girly. I also added some monogram bling to 2 of the onesies.

You’ve seen the mobile, but here it is again. My sister-in-law had a great idea to get a light kit from Ikea and make it a real chandelier. Here are the dessert stands too, before the cupcakes were on them.

The McKenna banner again, on the fireplace mantel.

I love how the tissue paper flowers turned out. It was my first time making them. They weren’t too hard, but took a while. I made 5 in the time it took to watch a full movie. But I think they create a huge impact. My 14 year old wants some in her bedroom.

Whitney made these cute wood letters that spelled out McKenna. She embellished them with ribbons, brads and bling. They turned out so cute. I took a picture, but it somehow got erased. I wish I could show you because they were adorable.
The food was delish. Sister-in-law Holly made the delicious cupcakes. Whitney made the yummy chicken salad with grapes and almonds and I made the other salads. Here’s Whitney and Emilee at work.

Nicole, sister-in-law; Sharon, grandma; Marcie, mom; Nikki, baby mama

Grandma Jacobs

Cousins

More family.

And more family.

I should have had someone else take the pictures once the shower started. I would get caught up in the moment and forget to take pictures. You may notice, none of the presents. Sorry about that Nikki.
Parker, my grandson is working on eating some of the leftovers. Look at him go!

I think the shower turned out great. We love Nikki and wish the best for her and Greg and their new little McKenna. Happy Labor Day! HaHa!

Today is #8’s Birthday. He is now 6 years old and a big kindergartner. Look how cute he is! Legos are his favorite thing in the world and he’s quite the creator.

We already had a small family party for him, before #4 left for Basic Training. Today, he gets to pick where to go out to dinner as a family. He’s already told me he wants to go to Red Robin. Tomorrow, he’s taking donuts to his kindergarten class for his birthday. And Friday he’s having a friend Pirate Party. I hope he doesn’t think this is going to happen every year.
Here’s the invitations I made for his party. I printed a vintage map onto cardstock from The Graphics Fairy. I drew an X on the map with dotted lines leading to “the treasure”, with a sharpie marker.

Then I stamped the party information on the back. I tore the edges all the way around and then inked them to make them look old and worn.
I stamped tags with the names of the kids that were invited to the party. Then I rolled the invitation up, tied it with jute and attached the name tag to it.

Really easy and fun to make. Ammon loves them and he’s excited for his Pirate Party. I’ll have more on the decorations later. I have to think up clues for the treasure hunt now.
Happy Birthday Ammon! We love you!
