Almost Done/Finally Finished
Do you have a list like mine? Things that are almost done but not quite. I don’t mean half finished craft projects. I have more of those than I can count. I mean things like this empty frame that just needs a picture put in it.
My best friend gave me this beautiful frame for my birthday (in January). It has sat on my dresser with a picture of some man I don’t know since that time. Well Whitney, you’ll be glad to know I finally printed off a picture and stuck it in the frame. It took me all of 3 minutes.
Or what about using my label maker to cover up my hand written labels, because I didn’t have any batteries for the labelmaker at the time.
I know it’s not a big deal, but it looks so much nicer now and took less than 10 minutes.
How about super gluing my boys toys back together so they could enjoy them instead of asking me 6 times a day if I’d fixed their toys yet.
Yeah, that took me 2 minutes, even with drying time.
Then there’s Ammon’s subway art I finished over a week ago that’s been sitting in my room on the floor. I just took 2 of the new Black Command Strips and stuck them on the back of the board.
Made sure it was level.
And 3 minutes later Ammon’s subway art was on his wall and not on my floor.
I’ve been wanting a place to put letters that need to be mailed. By the back door was the perfect spot to see them before I walk out. I attached a Command Spring Clip to a board in the mudroom.
Now I have a place for those letters that need to be mailed and a place for the stamps so I don’t misplace them.
It took about a minute to put up.
This is how the area above my desk has looked for a few months.
These pictures were sitting by my desk that whole time and it took less than 5 minutes to hang them. I think it looks so much better now.
Then I realized I hadn’t updated the Summer Fun Banner for about 2 weeks. The kids have been wanting to see new pictures of themselves.
So, I added swimming in the pool
Playing in the sprinklers
Going to the park for a picnic
Going to the mountains
Going to the Zoo
Riding the Front Runner to Salt Lake City
That took about 15 minutes, because I had to print, cut and hang the pictures.
Altogether everything took just under 40 minutes to finish. Not much time, but it would have been even less time if I would have followed through on the projects as they occured. So my goal is to start and finish things in a reasonable amount of time and not let them pile up.
What about you? Do you have a list of small things you need to cross off? Take a few minutes today to work on them so you don’t end up having hours of work later. I should go see what else I can get done.
Have a Beautiful Weekend!

It’s time for the 10 Tasks in 10 Days reveal at The Shabby Chic Cottage. Wow, that was quite the challenge, because as you know, other things kept needing to get done too. I finished everything, but there was an adjustment made to the last task. Here’s my reveal:
Make Fall come to front porch.

Paint mirror in living room (black, of course).

Make Fall leaf mobile/wind catcher.

Finish decorating for Halloween.

Paint candlesticks (black again).

Make chalkboards (my first time ever).

Make Halloween postcard banner.

Finishing touches in laundry room/closet.

Make bench for mudroom.

Add top trim to beadboard and start on lockers.

I just have to show you the beadboard ceiling. It still needs to be painted, but I love how it looks. Thanks Hubby!

I’m glad that’s all done! Have a productive day! My little guy is sick, so I’m not sure how much will get done today. He was up half the night and is laying in my bed now. Poor little guy.

I haven’t meant to keep you waiting for the giveaway results, but you know how things are when you come home from vacation. Sadly things don’t get done by themselves when you’re gone. Are you ready for this? Drum roll please……..and the winner is Lauren! Woo-hoo, woo-hoo, it’s your birthday! Well, it’s probably not your birthday (that would be weird if it was) but you get a present anyway. Are you excited? Here is the bag Lauren picked:

I know I’m jealous. Lucky Lauren! If you haven’t had a chance to visit Chanelle’s site yet, you should check it out www.shesgotpursenality.blogspot.com. Everything she makes is of the highest quality and she picks the most beautiful fabrics. Looking at all the comments it seems both types of dresses are a big hit. If you have a little girl you might want to keep that in mind. Since all I have is little boys and grandsons right now I might want to stick with the bags for now. All of her items would make a great gift for someone especially with the holidays coming up (or you could just buy one for yourself).
Thanks to all of you who entered. This was so much fun. I love giving free things away, so keep visiting because you never know when another one might be coming up and I don’t want you to miss out. And please leave me comments. I love comments and I love to know when someone’s visiting. I might even bake cookies!

The Shabby Chic Cottage is having a 10 tasks in 10 days challenge and since I just got home I thought I would join to get myself back in the groove of things and actually get some projects completed. To join all you have to do is post your 10 projects on your site and get busy. Leave a comment on The Shabby Chic Cottage so she knows you’re participating. Okay, here’s my list in no particular order (no stress, right):
1. Make Fall come to my front porch. It still looks like Summer out there.
2. Paint mirror in living room black. I have been meaning to paint that for over a year now.
3. Make Fall leaf mobile/wind catcher. I actually made this last night. Yay, I can cross one off my list now. I’ll show you how I made it further down on the page.
4. Finish decorating for Halloween. I did a little before we left for vacation.
5. Paint candlesticks – black, of course.
6. Make chalkboards. I am slow to jump on the bandwagon sometimes, but I’m ready now.
7. Make Halloween Postcard Banner. I’m doing this one today, so I’ll have something to show you tomorrow.
8. Patch nail holes and paint trim and doors in the almost finished mudroom. I need to get busy.
9. Finishing touches in laundry room. I don’t really have a laundry room, I have a laundry closet, so I’ve been making it over to be more inviting (plus I had a really cute idea with clothespins).
10. Paint light for mudroom. I am moving my diningroom light into the mudroom, but I’m going to paint it white before I hang it up (it’s brushed nickel now).
Remember I completed number 3. I got this idea from Censational Girl and thought it was so cute. Here’s what I started with:

Hemp twine
Beads
Assorted silk leaves
Metal hoop
Cut 10 pieces of twine 36″ long. Tie each piece onto the hoop equal distances from each other. Then just start tying the beads and leaves on. Nothing was precise about tying them on. I think not having it perfect makes it look more natural. I did use some super glue at the knots to make sure they wouldn’t come undone and to keep them in place on the hoop. Here’s the end result from inside the house:

Hanging on the back deck:

I love it. I know I need to paint the trim around my back door, you’re not suppose to be looking at that. Look at the pretty Fall leaves. What do you think?

I know this has nothing to do with organizing or decorating, but I want to brag for a minute. I ran in a 5K on Saturday and ran a good time for myself. I started running a couple months ago, because I had been taking classes at the gym but kept getting injuried, so I quit the classes. I started running on the treadmill and then would run outside a couple times a week. I had set a goal to run in a 5K by the end of summer. Hubby’s company was sponsoring a 5K and a 1 Mile Fun Run, so I signed up for the 5K and hubby, Emilee and Zachary signed up for the Fun Run. We had a lot of fun and best of all my time was 33:50. I feel really good about that, especially being over 45 (I’m not telling you exactly how old I am) and I haven’t ran in a race since I was in track, in 9th grade. I’m enjoying running for now, my pace isn’t fast, but I run the whole time and I fell really good when I’m finished. I want to do another 5K soon and I have a half-marathon goal for next year. For now, I’ll just keep running. Thanks for letting me brag a little (a lot).
Filed under Goals | Comments (2)Summer Fun List

Because I was having some trouble getting to my pictures I haven’t been able to post about our summer fun list. Our summer didn’t really start until July 3rd because of year round school (booo). So, as hubby says, we have to cram all our fun into a few weeks. We always make a list, but I got the idea of having the kids help and putting it on poster board from A Soft Place To Land. The poster’s hanging on the door to our basement. We’ve already been able to check off a lot of fun in a short time and you know we’ll get to everything. The kids will make sure of that.

My thought is if I post my goals on line and are held accountable for them by my readers I will have more incentive to accomplish them. I try to find motivation wherever I can. By nature I am a perfectionist, which can lead to procrastination. If I am going to do something I want it done right, which is pretty unrealistic if I’m doing it for the first time. So, I am going to post my goals on this site and get to work.
· Clean and repair picnic table and lawn furniture. Take an assessment of what needs to be purchased this summer.
· Paint terra cotta pots yellow for front porch- plant with flowers.
· Paint wire, hanging baskets black, attach to front railing- plant with flowers.
· Clean and paint wicker chairs for front porch- maybe brown, not sure on the color yet.
· Plant tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and pumpkins- I know I’m a little late, hopefully they’ll be fine.
· Gather items and get front porch ready for taking long breaks on throughout the summer.
· Get pool ready for swimming- needs new pump motor.
· Purge items and organize front hall closet.
· Make a new seat and paint chair bought at Garner Village- can’t decide if I want black chair with black and white material or white chair with green/blue floral material. Either for the bedroom or craft room. Which one?
· Don’t miss Tai Pan 75% off Tent Sale.
