Vinyl For The Birds

I’m trying to expand my use of my Cricut machine. I bought this cartridge a couple months ago because of all the Home Decor uses I would get out of it. I’m sure I’ll think of a zillion more ideas as time goes by, I just don’t want to over do the vinyl thing on the walls.

The vinyl comes in  a lot of different colors, but it’s not cheap. I read on one of the blogs I stalk (I’m sorry I don’t remember which one, if it was you please e-mail me and I’ll give you credit) that you can use shelf liner. It works really well, but you are limited to white. It’s so much cheaper though and the roll is going to last me forever. Here are the colors I used today.

To make this area more Springy, I took the red flowers out of the vases and added these pretty green ones. It’s really hard for me to find green flowers I like, but I really wanted green for this area. I found these at Michaels.

I used the Cricut to cut out the branches with the blossoms on them. This is actually the branches repeated 3 times to get the look and length I was going for.

I angled the first branch up a bit, the second pretty parallel and the third down a bit. It’s hard to see where I connected them, but if you look closely you can see the pattern.

Then I added the little blue bird for a pop of color. You can see in the picture above how the bird brings out the blue color in the window frame. He came from the same cartridge.

I love how it turned out. Just a hint about the vinyl: When you’re applying it to the surface, peel off the backing a little at a time, so you’re not having to worry about it sticking where you don’t want it. I really like using vinyl, because if I get tired of it or when the seasons change I can just peel it off and do something else in that area.

Hey, I just realized, that looks very similar to my blog header. I guess I really love birds and branches.

Have a Beautiful Weekend!

I stumbled onto your blog a couple of weeks ago and I love it! I have a cricut as well but I haven’t been brave enough to try cutting vinyl. Do you need to deep set blade for it?

Hey Leanne. I love your blog. And, just wanted to tell you that you can get lots of shelf paper colors to use with your Cricut. It works great. I use a lot of it for Glass Etching projects. Also, here are some links for way better prices on vinyl instead of Cricut brand:
