Patriotic Star Wreath

I struggled with getting my 4th of July decorations out this year. We had such a busy June that I never found the time to decorate the inside of the house, but I did find a little time to at least get the front porch decorated. This Patriotic Star Wreath was fast and easy to make and I love how it turned out.

Supplies needed for the wreath:

wood star (Hobby Lobby)
small flags
Decoart chalky finish paint
wood letters
red burlap ribbon
hot glue gun

I love this chunky star. It comes in 2 sizes and this is the larger one, the smaller one is on the bench in a later picture. I chose a dark blue chalky finish paint. I only applied one coat because I love the rustic look for this project. After the paint dried I sanded the edges just a bit for the wood to show through.

Hot glue the USA letters across the bottom of the star. Make sure there are at least 2 places the letters are glued to the star so it’s stable.

Hot glue the flags to the back of the letter S and the center of the star. You can sit the star on a table or chose to hang it like I did.

I love this red burlap and it would be great for Christmas too. The burlap ribbon is too wide, so you will need to cut it down the middle to make it thinner. Mine is about 2″ wide once cut down. My kids stress out if they can’t see out the peep hole so I have to make sure that when I hang any wreath they can still look out the hole. Cut the burlap the length you need. The wreath turned out great and was so easy to make.

Now, let’s check out the rest of the porch. It’s a small area but it was fun to decorate. The tree trunk is from a farm in the Las Vegas area and make a great little stand. The lantern is from IKEA. The flowers & garden container is from Target and stuffed with faux cotton plants and flags. Here’s a little tip to keep top heavy containers from toppling over, fill the container with rocks then add the plants or flowers.

This little bench fits perfectly between the door and the side of the house. The large J is from Hobby Lobby and stays on the porch most of the time.

The home pillow is from Target this year, the Welcome pillow is from WalMart, the lantern was purchased several years ago from an antique store, and the little star is from Hobby Lobby, painted red. The red star fits inside the blue star, for size reference.

The moss and succulent wreath is from WalMart, I added the little flag because you can never have too much red, white, and blue.

When we owned our home we had a place to hang a flag, but since moving here we haven’t been able to display our big flag. These little flags and some red, white and blue will have to do for now.

Happy Independence Day to all of my friends in the USA!
